For those who don't want to read the rest, the premise is list me all the Captain America Stories you think are noteworthy, rank me the best, tell me some of the worst.

OKAY I have a serious Captain America hankerin going on. the first movie was amazing, and until Man of Steel came out, it was my Favorite CBM of all time (still is number one every now and again depending on my mood) That movie made me look real hard at a character I have never really given too much thought towards before, and with the next movie coming out, and the reviews from UK already in (all positive) I am REAALLY jones'n for some more. last year I read Ed Brubakers attempt at Cap A, and I am now UNREMOVABLY HOOOKED.

So I want more.

Problem is, I haven't read a SINGLE bad story involving Captain America, and I want it to stay that way. So before I go completely NUTSO on buying CAP A comics that might dishearten me on a character that is (as of now) impecable, Give me some ideas on what to buy and what not to buy. I have Read Ed Brubakers run, and the Civil War (CAPA/IM Casualties was AMAZING) and I am pondering breaking my "NO comics before the year 2000 unless it is an epic level Batman iconic storyarc, or maybe Frank Millers Daredevil not sold on the idea yet" rule, for Mark Waid's 98-02 run. I have broken this rule before, with mixed results, mostly disappointments (which is why the rule is in place).

@veshark Im looking at you, O' God of Captain America Knowledge

Maybe stay away from the Mark Gruenwald stuff. I haven't read a lot of it. Wolf Cap is enough to keep me away. Comixology is having a Mark Waid Cap sale. Pick up some of those, they ought to be good. I hear the 3 issues Steranko did are supposed to be really good. Big influence on Brubaker's run.

@bierschneeman Tags don't work in the OP, bruh.

As for what to buy and what not to buy, this is all you need:

The Essential Captain America Omnibus by Veshark:

  1. Man out of Time (Miniseries, also collects Avengers #4)
  2. Lee-Steranko Run (Vol. 1, Issues 111-113)
  3. Secret Empire (Vol. 1, Issues 169-176)
  4. War & Remembrance (Vol. 1, Issues 247-266)
  5. Death of the Red Skull (Vol. 1, Issues 290 to 301)
  6. Captain America No More (Vol. 1, Issues 332-350)
  7. Operation Rebirth (Vol. 1, Issues 444-448, 450-454)
  8. Winter Soldier (Vol. 5, Issues 1-14)
  9. Captain America Comics Issue 1

Lol.

As for post-Brubaker...are you referring to Remender's run? I haven't read the whole thing yet, but honestly his run seems really inconsistent at least in terms of quality. I'd probably wait until he's wrapped it up before judging whether or not it's one of the good ones, but so far, ehh not a fan.

Anyone recommend his Marvel NOW series? Should I go all the way back to #1? Any good jumping on spots?
