Teen Titans Suggestions?

Hey everyone, so I just finished the Young Justice show and find myself missing the teen hero antics, and I figured the best solution would be to try and get into some of the Teen Titans comics. Now I know the New-52 run is supposed to be mediocre at best and horrendous at worse so I'm going to avoid that. I've always been a Geoff Johns fan, his Green Lantern run got me into comics, so I thought I'd read his run. Now I know his run only lasts around 50 issues or so, but I saw that there's a total of 100 issues in the entire third volume. Are those back 50 as good as Johns' stuff and are they worth reading? Also I saw that there are a couple Annual issues. Does anyone know if there's a specific point where I'm supposed to read the Annuals or are they standalone stories? Thanks!
