thor's lightning is on another level... it has actual high end feats... on the other hand... superman's heat vision have a statement (it being hotter than the core of the sun) which could be considered high level.
Power- Superman doesn't often pull out the most powerful Heatbeams he can but they can be incredibly powerful like the time he wiped out an army of Doomsdays or the time he reproduced the effects of the sun with his Heat Vision. Also in the new 52 his Heat Vision blasts were basically moon sized in comparison to Brainiac's ship. Thor can combine his lightning with his attacks and that's pretty potent but individual lightning strikes, I don't think they can match up frankly.
AOE- I think I've seen some crazy high end feats for Thor but I don't know them exactly but yeah Superman can reproduce a sun with his heat vision and in the new 52 blasts nearly on a planetary level.
Range- Superman at the Sun hit Brainiac's ship at earth, pretty hard to beat that kind of range.
The battle forum is for actual fights between characters. Things like 'who has the coolest power' or 'who gets the most chicks' ARE NOT BATTLES. Just because you put 'vs' in the title, does not automatically make it battle forum worthy. They should be placed in general discussion or in off-topic (depending on what they're about). As well, fights with characters who are not comic book or manga characters or haven't featured predominantly in comic books or manga (Bruce Lee vs Chuck Norris, Barney Stinson vs Joey Tribbian etc) do not belong in the battle forum, either.
This has been discussed between the battle forum mods a bit. These are guidelines for what does and does not constitute a battle.

Lightning. As for range, it has covered an entire moon before. I don't know the heat visions best feats in that area, I just wanted to put out a feat for the lightning's range.
Power, both are pretty powerful, I've seen scans of thors lightning doing impressive things , then again I've also seen the same for heat vision.
AOE thors Lightning is actually not that bad with distance but I saw superman heat up a planet with his heat vision and fodderize a heard of...well fodder doomsdays.
Range, superman, I think the Lightning isn't like a focus beam of heat energy, superman can use his heat vision with precision and accuracy, like the time he performed surgery on what's her face.
Ok scientifically speaking lighting heat can go as much as 30000 Kelvin
Heat vision is like the core of sun... Millions of degrees of Kelvin
Lightning channels ions and at most cause burn and electrical imbalance . Dont know if it causes vitrification
Heat vision is like core of stars where there's heavy nuclear fusion .
In theory nothing can destroy things better than Extreme heat. So unless Thor's lightning is magic and causes special damage , heat vision Wins ... Or rather , stomps

That's the only one that can kinda match lightning feats. But there are a lot of them on Thor's end, a lot
Obviously thor's lightning has better A.O.E. and range because its lightning, superman's heat vision has been more effective at close range, sich as when he threatened to use heat vision ray to lobotomize a villian the animated movie superman vs the elite
