Does he realize the irony in buying two copies of a title he seemingly doesn't support I wonder.

I really dont understand this hate for Superior Spider-man

Spider-man has been dead since OMD this is only Marvel catching up

#6 Posted by V_Scarlotte_Rose (6540 posts) - - Show Bio

If you hate it so much, why not just burn the copy you already have? You could spend the money on a comic you do like rather than just throw it away.

#7 Posted by V_Scarlotte_Rose (6540 posts) - - Show Bio

Also, burning it would be a pointless waste of paper. You could just tear it up, then recycle the pieces. I don't know exactly how much wood it takes to make a single comic book, but I'm sure it's enough to house some kind of creature. Maybe a small animal, bird or insect, maybe even a spider. By recycling your hatred instead of burning it, you help save endangered species, and our environment. And by recycling it, perhaps one day its' remains could be made into a comic you really enjoy, if comic companies use recycled paper that is.

Its very typical to a spider-man fan (or any character on that matter) to buy everything that involves that character even if they dont like it.

#9 Posted by V_Scarlotte_Rose (6540 posts) - - Show Bio

@chocobojam: Even if they consider it burn-worthy?

destroying a comic book only drives up the value of the other existing copies so....thanks

Plus, getting so angry about it that you post that you want to burn it will give it extra publicity, and may cause more people to buy it, to see what all the fuss is about. This could lead to more monthly readers, a more enthusiastic fanbase, and people crying out for more of what they love, which is what you hate.

Therefore, by posting about wanting to burn this, you may have caused it to be more successful than it might have done otherwise. A butterfly flaps its' wings, etc, etc.

I might go and buy a copy now.

Book burning? Seriously?

Um... have you ever looked at the history of book burning to see what kind of company you are in????

Just for the record, I am apprehensive of buying Superior Spider Man issue 1 due to all the negativity, and this vid just adds to that. (granted, a certain spoiler of what happens in the issue is another reason I am losing interest in it) Considering I was very intrigued in the series initially.

On top of that I feel like I wouldn't want to support a gimmicky comic.

Small minds come up with small solutions I suppose.

#16 Posted by 202ComicReviews (17 posts) - - Show Bio

Burning it is only an idea. I would keep the one I have because I am a collector and I plan to keep it on my pull list because I'm a complete idiot about some things. Wait.... That came out wrong.>_< Anyway, as for the CGC 9.8 I'm giving away, that was only about $45 on eBay.

If you have a dog, you should instead record your dog pooping on it. Maybe over-dub some old "Triumph the Insult Comic Dog" in the video to go with it. I feel that makes a stronger statement then just burning it. I thought about buying a copy just to record exactly that, but then I realized I would still be giving Marvel money to do that. I don't think Marvel cares what we do with our comics, as long as they get our $$ for crap, they'll keep selling us crap.

(Don't waste money buying another copy, just desecrate the one you already paid for).

Thats messed up. That Comic could of still been worth alot of $$$$$$$$$$$$ someday.

#19 Posted by V_Scarlotte_Rose (6540 posts) - - Show Bio

@ZEELLO: Fair enough. Not buying it is reasonable, but burning it is a different thing. From what I've heard about the series, I'm fine with the concept, but there was a certain thing I heard about it that bothered me.

I'll maybe not get it, but someone I know is getting it. I'll maybe just read theirs before I make up my mind.

@arnoldoaad: Sounds like a weird evil motto.

I say he should burn the copy he already has. I see fire as a cleansing and purifying thing.

You are aware of the fact that after you buy a comic book Marvel or DC doesn't care what you do with it. They already have your money. (I'm assuming you did buy the comic book and it wasn't given to you or you didn't steal it.)

#23 Posted by ZEELLO (223 posts) - - Show Bio

lol the burning is much longer than the review. Anyway I'm glad I got to see what you thought of the book but I skipped to the end after that.

#24 Posted by 202ComicReviews (17 posts) - - Show Bio

I did buy it and like an idiot I will probably buy the next issue as well. :( I will not be burning any further issues though.

#25 Posted by Manbehindthewires (344 posts) - - Show Bio

I've never been offended by fictional literature to the extent that I'd have to kill it with fire...

#26 Posted by V_Scarlotte_Rose (6540 posts) - - Show Bio

Buying another copy to destroy is a pathetic empty gesture. I don't think you really hated it that much. You could have just burned your first copy. If your going to make a statement, mean it.

And complaining about Mary Jane 'not showing her t!t$'? That's totally uncalled for.

@arnoldoaad: I dont think its the fact that he is dead, but the way he died.

Book burning? You join such an illustrious class of historical figures like...

  • ...Pinochet!
  • ...The Spanish Inquisition!
  • ...Nazis!

Keep staying classy.

Unless he did this for attention. In which case..mission accomplished.

#31 Posted by impossibilly (893 posts) - - Show Bio

And another thing, out of all the Spider-Man comics out there, this is the one you chose to burn? Have you never heard of Howard Mackie? Or The Clone Saga? Or One More Day? Or Chapter One? Or The Gathering of the Five? Or Sins Past?!?

Kids these days...

#32 Posted by 202ComicReviews (17 posts) - - Show Bio

I only started reading comics about 2 years ago. I just hate how no one can ever STAY DEAD!!! BTW - That was my ONLY copy. And I CAN complain about Mary Jane not showing her boobs. He did say... "THE VIEW"!!! Boobs = View last I checked so nice try sweetheart.

#33 Posted by Smart_Dork_Dude (2685 posts) - - Show Bio

That's nothing. I saw one guy BLEND an issue of 698.

I was actually interested in just reading about the character of Doc-Ock as Spider-Man. But now it's not certain whether I'm getting that. For me it was enough that he had Peter's memories and therefore adopted his convictions. I don't like the idea of someone being in the instructor's seat ready to stop the car if needed. Plus now for everything Doc Ock does that's heroic there will be the nagging question of whether it was really him, or a certain voice in his head that made him do it.

edit: That said the issue 2 scans are actually rather reassuring.
