Can you name any superhero brawls that actually felt organic to what was going on in the story instead of being forced?
???@x_29: Doomsday vs Supes
@cattlebattle: The story is to kill supes and the climax was the battle, in this case the plot IS the battle
the story was the death of Superman...they needed something to kill him, hence Doomsday, plot device.@cattlebattle: The story is to kill supes and the climax was the battle, in this case the plot IS the battle
@cattlebattle: plot device is part of the story, no?
Punisher vs anyone who isn't Punisher.
Indeed, but the OP asked for something organic, as Superman fighting someone like Darkseid or something would come natural as he is a ruthless otherworldly despot, that may come into conflict with earth. Doomsday was created by creators for the sole purpose of killing Superman and just kind of showed up out of nowhere.....no build up, just fighting...I would say that is pretty much the definition of "forced"@cattlebattle: plot device is part of the story, no?
@cattlebattle: in that case batman vs bane
ultimate spider man (peter parker) vs ultimate green goblin

Iron Man vs Thor!
It felt real because Iron Man was fighting a losing battle. I mean, Thor was in his King state back then, so he was powered up, but Tony's Thorbuster armor (which is powered by the same source of energy as the Destroyer) was tanking hits from him. Heck, they leveled a whole countryside and Thor actually had to put a hell of a lot of effort into it.
Superman vs. Captain Marvel, in Kingdom Come.
In the context of what Luthor was doing to Billy, it made total sense that CM would attack Supes. Even better, they fought on even grounds. Neither of them was 'stomping' the other, really, and it eventually ended in an emotional conclusion that furthered the story.

I get what Cattle is saying. As you said Rumble Doomsday was a plot device, but since the story was about Superman being killed it felt ''organic" that some primordial beast from beyond the stars could be the one to do it. And since this creature only lived for ''destruction" Superman fighting for his life just felt so real to me. Doomsday was just so unstoppable.
@Enosisik said Magneto vs Red Skull
Great choice
i don't know why this popped into my head, but going w/ first response....... "JSA" vs. "Super-Man" in the elseworlds series "JSA: the Unholy Three". A lot of others spring to mind also....i don't know why I thought of this....i feel weird now......
