Star Wars: Rogue One Information Released

While fans are loving getting a new Star Wars trilogy, they're most excited for the spin-off films that have been promised and the first one coming to them in late 2016 is called Rogue One. At Star Wars Celebration, in Anaheim, CA, on the final day of the convention, a panel was held for the film.

Director Gareth Edwards and Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy were a part of this panel as they discusses what fans can expect from the film and as some concept art, which no one was supposed to take pictures of... but of course some shots are going to hit the net.

The film will start shooting this summer and those in attendance did get to witness something similar to a sizzle reel where they got to see a jungle and the Death Star up in the sky. Afterwards, the logline for the films was revealed:

"A rogue band of resistance fighters unite for a daring mission to steal the Death Star plans."

The film is set after Episode III but before Episode IV. It's really going to be a war film as well. In addition, it was announced Felicity Jones was cast as a Rebel in the film. This is going to be a time where there are no Jedi at all and the resistance to the Empire is growing.

Star Wars: Rogue One is set to hit theaters on December 16, 2016.

Why am I barely finding out about this now?

I knew some of the rumors about the spin-off plot, so this was a whole lot of nothing. Actually, very little of nothing. But, I can't expect much from a movie that hasn't started filming yet. It could be cool. I want to know how they fit the Bothans in...."many Bothans died" yadda, yadda.

And my hype level went from 100 to 0... "Steal the Death Star plans" has been told multiple times both before the EU became a thing and while it existed, and now we're getting yet another? Set it in the 25 year gap between Jedi and VII so they can go nuts and not have to be hamstrung with what we know will have to happen in order for it to synch up with the original trilogy.

Im really excited for this.

people tend to give him crap for the godzilla movie when in fact that movie was VERY well directed and the cinematogrphay was beautiful.

Only gripe the Godzilla movie had was wasn't enough Godzilla, we dont have to worry about that hear because there wont be a monster as the main focus,

I think this is going to be a surprise hit.

Still hoping the next spinoff movie is either Bobba Fett or Darth Maul. Anyway this movie looks awesome. I'm so happy disney bought Lucas films so we can see more Star Wars movies.

Actually no. No Jedi, NOT Star Wars. I think I'll skip this. & what a surprise, NOT going to a time period other than the 2 trilogies.

No information if this is set before Star Wars Rebels? Because if they kill Ezra, Kanan an the crew of the ghost just to make it "an era without" Jedi, Im really gonna get angry.

The only thing to make this better is if Kyle Katarn is in it.

Folks Bothans aren't gonna die...that was ROTJ, this movie is gonna be about the Rebels stealing the plans for the 1st Death Star, not the 2nd.

So no X wing,s nothing to do with rouge squadron hmmm well now don't I feel stupid and a whole lot of ugggh I want to be in nerd utopia for the new star wars stuff but the first order and the rebel alliance name change this is feeling less and less like star wars.

I hope to God they'll also do a KOTOR trilogy in the near future.

But yeah, Rogue One will be awesome!

I think they just mean that there aren't any Jedi officially involved with the Rebels at this time, which is something we knew was the case whenever Episode IV takes place. They could either be dead, captured, or off on their own in their own end of the Universe still.
