Please let him do Nightcrawler! C'mon, Marvel! DC has really pissed me off by taking him and Lemire off of Green Arrow. You want to win me over? Let this man draw the fuzzy blue elf!
I would definitely pick up Spider-Man again should he replace Ramos, now we find a better writer than Slott. lolz But yes I would pick up Doc. Strange should he be the penciller for that book.
@xwraith: Ah, very cool. I see that he isn't very traditionally "comic booky." That's awesome, and he has a really unique art style. My #1 fav also has a distinct way of drawing.
I mean, I like Jim Lee as much as the next guy, but putting him at the top of a personal list just seems rather...expected. I also feel like his art can get boring after awhile.

Glad he is coming to Marvel. I don't delve too much into the X side of the universe, but his art is usually worth the price of admission so I might check it out.
@xwraith: that would be pretty awesome, and also a slap in the face of dc, but I'd have no choice but to buy it
also Marcelo Maiolo has been working with sorrentino on his x-men titles, and I assume will continue on his on-going series, as much as I like Sorrentinos black and whites, Maiolo add so much with his colouring, and I love to see that they're still working together
Eh..I know I'm a minority, but I hate his art. To me, it looks like sketches with lots of shadow and colors splashed on them to cover up that he can't draw. His faces have close to zero detail, with most everyone having the same flat, featureless nose, eyes and head shape. I have no idea why people like this guy.
try taking a look at these previews, one of the big reasons I like him is his amazing use of negative space (which you clearly don't like) and he usually does awesome work and scenes/locations, costumes, and page layouts

Yeah..no offense, it's all mere opinions, but I still don't like it. The backgrounds have close to no detail (just like his faces). That skyline background for example. A bunch of rectangles of various sizes with some yellow on them to simulate lights. While that's not uncommon in comics, I like artist that make the buildings look like...buildings, which means more than drawing rectangles. How about building with a more oblong or wider shape scattered in? A building that's a church or something with a spire? How about one that's more like a square? His art simply looks lazy to me. Now, I'm not an art critic and maybe I don't "get' what he does, but as the old saying goes, I do know what I like.
but when you have an avatar from Justice League Unlimited, I have to ask what you think is good art, cause I would say that cartoons art was much more lazy, at least imo
Don't like sorrentino much. i don't mind if people trace ( in fact I like to do so myself ) but some of his just seem very lazy. What he is good at though is composing the picture. But sometimes it seems like he just doesn't put in the effort...maybe it's the deadlines.

The avatar was chosen because it's from the JLU version of "For the Man who has Everything" so it matches my username. Not because I think it's "great art" As for art I do like: Neal Adams, Mark Buckingham, Keith Giffen before he got "stylistic", George Perez, Mike Deodato, Nicola Scott, Ivan Reis.
I have. I seriously doubt those were drawn freehand, the signature is in pen and the drawing is penciled. I have seen many artists draw in person, and have been drawing myself since I was a child.
If you want to see what real freehand talent is..look at kim jung gi etc..
Sorrentino is a tracer and it's not necessarily meant as a negative. Look at his work on God of War, he practically just photoshopped pictures. He's just gotten better at it. Now I definitely feel he uses Illustrator to live trace stuff and thats it. He might add some things to people like beards or articles of clothing but when he does it's very lazy and he doesn't use any brushes on his lines, they look like 1pt solid generic illustrator lines.
Here is a look at what live trace looks like in adobe illustrator :
here is a sorrentino:
**** Notice all the little crackly parts around where the shadows usually go. This is just one example but most of his work is like this. Those marks and texture only come from live tracing. He is adding stuff for sure though. But I'm not sure how much. Like i said sometimes it's obvious what he adds, like beards or hair. He has his process down by now.
@jonnythewolf: I just showed you work he did in pencil and you still say he just takes pictures into photoshop or adobe
or course there aren't brush strokes, it's inked and coloured, usually by a different artist, but inking alone usually covers that up
you don't seem to know much about the process of making comics
take another look at those examples I showed above, he has those crackly parts that he did himself cause he is very good at what he does, just cause you can't do it, doesn't me he can't
in case you're new there's several steps in art, outlines, definition, and shading, all of which are very noticeable in his art

You should also learn a lil bit about comics. They can be digitally inked and colored and it's not always by different people.
You should also watch some other artists draw free hand. I'm not talking about brush strokes either. I have first hand experience with adobe illustrator and photoshop, around 10+ years. I know a live trace when I see one.
Also look in all your Green Arrow books: tell me if you see an inker mentioned.
On every website, CBR, CV, DC wiki, the only artist is Sorrentino with a colorist. No inkers mentioned. Which makes sense because he's live tracing and working in Illustrator.
Also there are several steps to art sure...none of those are noticeable in his interiors, which is fine but also those examples you showed, could have been easily traced on a light table.
you actually think that every single thing he has ever drawn was directly traced, over his time on i Vampire and Green Arrow? including the hand drawn images which you seem to claim he made to throw off that he only uses photoshop
at this point I can't tell if you're trolling or just dense
I would still like to see him take over Nightcrawler. I think he could highlight his movements in fights extremely well. I will read almost anything he does though.

Yes I do. Is that so hard to believe? Now you're the one sounding dense. Also resorting to ad hominem....wow..so you have no argument at all huh?
Look, the only way to get those edges on the shadows, the ones in my examples, is through the computer program adobe illustrator and through a tool called 'live trace'. Go ahead. Google it. If you don't know it. Which I assume you don't because it's basically irrefutable evidence that he uses it.
Also I asked you to look in your Green Arrow books and tell me if it says there is an inker?...No response yet.
Also I asked you if you had seen Sorrentino's God of War? No response.
I'm not even sure if you're a real fan now.
So here's another example of using reference material and ...sort of tracing. Not by your favorite artist so you can be unbiased about it's feasibility.
It's from Brian K Vaughn's Ex Machina and by artist Tony Harris, I have this tpb and in the back they show you how it was done.
Now you see..just as I said with Sorrentino, Harris adds stuff, changes some backgrounds...but pretty much the whole...50 issue series was done like this.
