Some info on John Constantine?

Could you please give me the character overview of John Constantine.I don't know much about him and i feel lost in JLD #22.

• like How he gets his powers?
• Is he a good guy,bad or just selfish?
• Why he manipulates the JLD?
• How does he control everyone who invites in the House of Mystery?

I think I can only answer one.He's not necessarily bad,but more of an anti-hero.

I think he manipulates them for his own agendas when he needs them,but I don't know if that's true

Good guy but does almost whatever it takes to handle the situation.

@squalleon: John doesn't really have any abilities, he can do the things does because he's spent his life studying magic, he does have some demonic blood inside him that Nergal infected him with that grants some additional abilities like keeping him young. John is a good guy buy he works for the greater good so if that means screwing over pepole he'll do it, he'll do whatever it takes to win.
