Often enough,I hear people (commonly people that have never read comics, and sometimes those who have a bias to another industry, like games) say that "costumes are lame" or are stupid, like Superman's,and that armor is cooler (just their opinion).

Do you, personally, think that comic book characters should wear armor,or that it depends on the character?

Depends on character. It would be pretty idiotic to make Iron man have a costume and Superman have an armor.

With the advanced technology of comic universes there's no reason it can't be armor disguised as clothes outside of characters that are outsiders or too poor.

Depends on the character.

And it depends on who is drawing it too. I would hate to see Mike Allred, Alex Ross, or Darwyn Cooke draw armor........

@black_arrow: superman does have armor though.

I know. I was criticizing the New 52 for that ridiculous armor.

I like armor best, but it depends on which character you know?

I already have a healthy suspension of disbelief built up. Armor doesn't help me buy into it. It just looks clunky and stupid.

All comic book characters should wear a hoodie under a leather jacket.

Just because it's armor doesn't mean it isn't a costume, it just means that it has more physical substance.

Depends on the character.

If we're talking' 'bout a big, strong, heavy-hittin' brick, an armor would probably be better for 'em.

But if we're talkin' 'bout some kinda guy like Spiderman or the Flash, a costume is probably better for 'em.

it depends on what the character wants... if he just want to fight and kill he has no need for a costume.

If he wants to send a message or impress people, he should wear a costume...

Very good points

With the advanced technology of comic universes there's no reason it can't be armor disguised as clothes outside of characters that are outsiders or too poor.

Actually,I think that there is a reason. It depends on the character,ya know? It doesn't really make sense for Flash to wear a bulletproof costume,or even Superman really....just because they can wear armor doesn't mean that they need to. It also depends on the message that the character is trying to send, how they usually fight, their powerset, etc.

Costumes, for the most part. I'm not interested in seeing a heavily armored Batman or Spiderman.

I think some people have it backwards. Just because a character has high durability doesn't mean they have to trek around in jeans or skin-tight clothes. Personally, I love Superman's ceremonial armor. It makes a whole lot more sense than it just being a random costume (tho I also like the similar origin for his costume in MOS). Thor also wears armor, and I couldn't see him without it for wearing spandex. IMO, it has to work with who the character is, not what their powers - or lack thereof - are.

Depends entirely on the character.
