So Axel Alonso has motioned in a CBR interview (sorry cant link it since my laptop blew up) that Silver Surfer and Black Widow will both be getting books in the second wave of Marvel NOW. Writers haven't been announced yet but I would be allover a Surfer book. What do you guys think of this? Will you read ether of the books? What creative teams would you like to see on them?
He didn't actually say that they'd be getting titles though, just that they'd be important in some way. It seems possible that they could, but it doesn't seem to be official yet.
Axel Alonso On featured characters in Marvel NOW! Wave Two: "We picked every character in there because they are characters to watch in the coming year. Just like last year when we were unveiling the Marvel NOW! Joe Quesada image and you were seeing characters -- the Guardians of the Galaxy, you were seeing the new Spider-Man, you were seeing Nova, and we were promising they would be characters to watch. We're saying the same thing with characters like the Black Widow, the Silver Surfer right now. How this will come to pass, I'm not going to say more. That's for future announcements, but they're all chosen for a reason. They're all going to get their moment in the spotlight."
I know it's a stretch but I'd like to see Jonathan Hickman write a Silver Surfer title. Need to get him back to his hardcore sci-fi roots and who better to do that than Hickman. Although he's one of my favorite characters he hasn't been the same since the 90's when Norrin Rad died. When the illusion of Zenn-la and Shala Bal disappeared everything that remained of his mortal personality faded with it and all that was left were all the experiences he had as the god-like entity of the Silver Surfer. I thought his involvement with Annihilation and The Thanos imperative were kind of meh. I didn't read The Defenders so for all I know his character has grown a lot more likeable and heroic but my fave Surfer stories are still all from the 80's. Black Widow is not really my thing but I bet it could be pretty good. If Catwoman can have her own book then why not Natasha? I might want to see James Robinson try an espionage story with BW. He's done so much raw super hero stuff I think it could be an interesting experiment.
I wanted Black Panther and Iron Fist books. *flips table*
The current New Avengers is already like one of the best Black Panther books ever in my opinion.
Black Panther is great in New Avengers, but I would love to see him in his own solo series again.
@jonny_anonymous: Hickman on the Silver Surfer and Rucka on Black Widow would be very interesting. So pleased and excited with the Surfer news! Although isn't Rucka miffed about the change in direction with Punisher after his run?
@jonny_anonymous: In an interview, he expressed a little discontent with Frank moving onto the Thunderbolts so soon after his run. I might be exaggerating or misquoting him but that's probably not enough to turn him off Marvel wholly. In any case, it's not as bad as his dislike for DC after they took Wonder Woman: Earth One away from him and gave it to Morrison instead.
