Its actually more disrespectful to gay people when a formerly straight character is made gay, if there was some hint of it in his history or he was really young and just thus far unaware that would be one thing but this is a clearly established straight character.

What's the point in changing a character into a gay person? Why not create an equally awesome character who is gay? Or put Apollo and Midnighter in the lime light more.

It wouldtn kill his story. And I wouldnt mind if they did. I dont mind if they dont. Would it be amazing to see the most well known superhero be gay? Yes it would. In the end I sadly think it would cause a big backlash though. I think there will be the straight people that are cool with it. The striaght people that wouldn get it or be like " why are you changing his sexuality. Thats stupid. Theres no point in it. We have enough gay characters". Then there will be the homophobes.. who i think they would riot, they would attack. Because too them seeing a character so ingrained into our society be gay, would wreck them. They would see it as a horror and take it out on actual gay people i think. And so I would worry about the outcome that would haplen. But i would be happy if they did it in thr comics. I would just hope what i said above would not happen.

There is NO point of making already existing characters gay. It is a pointless change that can really piss off fans. Create a new character that's gay if you want to, but don't change a character like that unless its an alternate universe/Elseworld.

I can see your point. Personally I think that,as an elseworlds story that,if they made him gay,it would be interesting (even more interesting if it was like,Lex Luther or Batman or something that he was romantically involved with.....or perhaps an alien....),but to the main character,no. It's not the fact that he is gay,that is a really gross oversimplification. I think that,if he was made gay,that would be better. But if not,if that's not part of him (which it's not),then no....although,I really would want to see an elseworlds story like this.. And no,it doesn't change the quality of the character or the stories. In fact,I don't think him being gay would have anything to do with the story and it shouldn't (in most,if not,all cases).

......Now I actually want an elseworlds story where Superman is gay........

I don't think it would ruin the character. Sure, his relationships with Lois Lane and WW would be drastically changed, but the character himself wouldn't really be that much affected, as his sexuality isn't really a plot point. I would be pretty indifferent on the matter. If it was written well and respectfully towards the homosexual community, I wouldn't have a problem with it.

The way i saw it, is that in canon it would either be a) a new universe( as they did with alan scott) or b) they simply explain that his past relationships were beards, or superman being unsure with his sexuality, as thosse are real things that do happen with in society. And sexuality can be fluid, so prehaps he thought he was straight as thats what society telled him to be but after pondering and discovering who he was. He realized his true feelings.

But I do get what your saying, i can see some people thinking it as what you thought would happen.

What purpose would making Superman gay serve? Creating a new character with characteristics is one thing, changing a pre-existing characters characteristics should be purposeful!

No. I wasn't for doing this with Allen Scott in Earth 2 either. It's very lazy to just make an established character gay instead of creating a new gay hero that has a strong enough character to survive in the limelight.

He is a Superman clone and thus viewed as a variation of the character! But, as a gay character, is also a gay variation of Superman, or better put, a variation of the character to which sexual orientation is counted amongst the variations. That does not imply the only difference between them is the sexual orientation, but, in the context of this thread, it will be the variation most focused on!
