Hard to say. The anime may seem a little slow compared to the anime and there are the filler episodes that drag things out. In my personal opinion, you're probably not missing much but I would recommend some of the DBZ movies if you want a quick taste of what you'd be in for.

Watc DBKai but you wont get the awesome Falconer music, You can watch Z but avoid fillers like Garlic saga.

I think the original dub is better to watch before going into kai and some of the fillers are enjoyable

example pikkon is the most badass filler character

@darthsenju: Only if you like crappy translations and "fights" stretching 5 episodes where they just stare at each other and flex and talk shit most of the time.

Only one fight is exactly like that. Don't give him the wrong impression lol.

I'd rather watch the anime then the Manga and just skip the filler.

If you've already read the manga then you know what your favourite bits are, just watch those LOL

If you decide to watch the whole thing through I would say IMO -

  • the Japanese Dub of DBZ is best, but it has too much filler and many find Goku's shrill voice a dealbreaker.
  • US dub of DBZ is poor, with horrible translations, filler, and uneven voice overs, but it has an interesting US only soundtrack.
  • The US dub of DB Kai is well translated, has less filler, and better voice acting but has a poor soundtrack and iffy editing.

Whatever you do make sure to bypass the filler where possible.

The Manga is generally way better than the anime, but when the Anime does get around to the awesome bits it does a very good job at bringing those moments to life and getting the blood pumping, you just have to sit through the crap to get there.

Watch Dragon ball z dubbed.

SKIP THE GARLIC JR ARC.

SKIP ALL THE FILLER

im not sure if i'm allowed to link to another website but.

http://saiyanwatch.com/dragonball-z/

Please watch it. Great story, animation (for it's time) amazing movies, great character development, jesus soundtrack and, alot of screaming.

IF YOU CARE ABOUT SOUNDTRACK GO TO ORIGINAL AMERICAN DUB.

IF YOU CARE ABOUT ANIMATION AND LESS FILLER WATCH KAI.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ sums it up.
