Should DC bring back Elseworlds?

Elseworlds was such a great concept in that it gave DC the ability to write anything they wanted with no in-universe consequences. It allowed for fresh new ideas when the main continuity stories were getting stagnant and boring. If they wanted they could write a story about Superman, one of America's greatest hero's, landing in Russia instead of Kansas. Or even take inspiration from other works; such as having Batman revive his father in a Frankenstein monster kind of way, or battle Dracula and he himself become a vampire and kill all his enemies. Idea's such as this don't happen anymore because writers have to adhere to a set universe (well multiverse if you want to get technical) and don't have the same creative spark that they could.

So I ask, do you think DC should bring back Elseworlds, and if so what type of story would you like to see?

i liked the idea and i think they should do that. I think that hey should do one to be about Elseworld story of what happen if Jason Todd never had died on events of Death in the family.

Is the Earth One series not technically elseworlds?

I was expecting someone to say that the 52 was just one big Elsworlds story by now. :p

Seriously I did like them and wish they would come back. Maybe even put them in the Annuals.

@dernman: My friends who read comics and I sometimes joke that if the New 52 failed, that DC would just say it was all just one big Elseworlds story, and bring back the old universe.

JK, I really like N52. And Elseworlds. The Nail was my fav.

As a DC fan I always loved that there were some things that were specific to the publisher. Prestige format, Year One stories, Vertigo and Elseworlds tales. Kingdom Come, Gotham by Gaslight and Red Son. With a track record like that its hard to accept DC doesn't want to do anymore Elseworlds stories.

YES!!!! BRING BACK ELSEWORLDS!! I hold Elseworld stories in the highest regard, they were fantastic. Let's go into some of our favorites for those that are uneducated, i will start:

with elseworlds they weren't limited to 52 universes to make consistent stories with. That's why marvel has an infinite multiverse

Earth 2 and Earth One are elseworlds.

Joking aside, I see them more as parallel universe's rather than a proper Elseworlds story.

Elseworlds can be hit or miss, but when they're good, they're really exceptional. I wouldn't mind DC continuing with them, so long as they can get the best writers/artists for it.

@primebonnick: Sort of, but technically you could say all outside media (Movies, T.V. shows, and Video Games) are Elseworlds since they don't take place in the main continuity. What I was talking about was DC bringing back the Elseworlds imprint into it's comic books.

Speaking of Injustice, I found that universe way better then anything New 52 is producing right now.

Really i think actions comics is pretty great along with Red Laterns, Superman/Wonder woman and Justice league dark new 52 has some great things.

@primebonnick: OK, maybe I overexaggerated when I said that Injustice is better than anything in the New 52, but I do find it more interesting then most of its titles

I've been wanting to get into Justice League dark for a while now, but I've been waiting for Forever Evil to end before I start reading it since that event just bores me with is slow pace.

This may sound like a stupid question but what's the difference between "Elseworlds" and "What if?"?
