Just wondering what everyone thinks, if character statements should be used as valid feats. sometimes they are true, but other times they aren't (like powergirl or supergirl claiming to be as strong as superman) or are uncertain, and i have seen debates where they are used as feats. I think they should only be used if there is at least one actual feat to back it up, or the character's power is supposed to be implied.

Pretty much as you said, has to have at least a feat or some such. I would also take it, if there's another source saying something about it that isn't from a character's mouth, but more from like different sourcebooks and it being consistent. Although feats would most def take precedent.

Example:

Training of a particular group is spoken of through a sourcebook, what they go through etc

A character who has 1. Witnessed said training or 2. Gone through the same training or 3. Have witnessed said group ability and thus this going back to the training bit.

Then said group showing a feat or some such of their ability to do what has been sourced/said by character/sourcebook.

Although this would kinda vary, I'm moreso using canon fodder for this rather than actual characters. So it is probably different.

It should hold some credibility, but should not be passed off as an actual feat.

Batman can't dodge bullets. Any scan of him doing so is PIS. That's my opinion on the topic.

Depends on statement, the person who made the statement and situation. If someone self proclaims then no. If someone else is making statement about others, stikk depends on who is making the statement. Do they have any reason to brag? Like Odin being called omnipotent by ASGARDIANS. Not reliable.

But if an enemy with reliable history makes such statement, then I don't see why not. They have no reason to brag.

"I will destroy this whole universe" - character has never so much as blown up a planet - No.

"I will destroy your city" - character has easily destroyed buildings and/or city blocks - Probably, though it might be over time

"I will destroy this planet!" - character has destroyed a different planet before or a large moon/satellite - Yes

Well on Superboy they mention that Rose Wilson kills Batman, Deathstroke and Ra´s Al Ghul on same battle. So you know, lets see what people think about this.

Depends on context, and what they're saying. It's not a either or thing.

Hulk is the strongest there is! Never mind issue 4 of Hulk where they state he's fighting against someone stronger than he is. (Abomination.) Hmm..someone stronger? Guess that means his strength isn't "unlimited" either.

Yeah, should have a 'context' option. Shield agent or lacky of Luthor giving a report, probably accurate.

Spider-Man or Beast Boy throwing out some lines out there about what someone can do, not so much.

Yep; I'd consider them as feats, because they wouldn't be put in there if they weren't.

You got it about right. It depends. If Superman States Shazam is as strong as him and the only feat we have of Shazams strength on that level is him arm wrestling Superman then sure. On the other hand plenty characters either lie or over estimate themselves. Jason Todd Can say he is as good at h2h as Batman but if theirs nothing to back it up then no. (Including that Jason PIS feat with Shiva)

This is a good question. Sorta like how in DoS Booster Gold said Doomsday was moving faster than the Flash but he doesn't really show that speed later on.

Depends on who, if it's just some random hero or villain talking about another character then I wouldn't take it seriously, if it's a beings like Odin, Eternity, Spectre, Etc then it could

Character statements are very tricky. It depends on the character themselves as well as how logical their claims were. For example:

Laxus said Mystogan was his only competition in Fairy Tail. We already knew Erza was strong as hell. But Laxus wasn't impressed by her at all. And despite Mystogan's lack of feats, the fact that someone cocky as hell put him on the same level as well as a short, even battle lends weight to the claim.

Just saying doesn't make it true, however when there is little to nothing to corroboro the claim.

Superman saying he can destroy a planet - Feat

Supergirl saying she is Supermans equal - Needs more examples of proof to be a feat.

Tim Drake saying he only lost because he was holding back - a grey area.
