Should Batman be re-introduced as a vegan?

it would be refreshing for writers to redefine his character in this direction, where he starts a war on meat-eaters in addition to his usual staple of criminals.

Not only that, I think DC should diversify their characters more.

Batman is supposed to be athletic.

Athletes eat meat.

No because it would directly conflict with his athleticism. You cannot be Peak Human if you are a vegan. Meat contains the goodies that helps you attain level.

No he doesnt need to, that Batman see human life as sacred, doesnt mean he thinks the same about animals or other creatures, sure he is not going to kill aliens or beings with a conscience, robot by definition are "not alive" even if they have a conscience, Batman would never "deactivate" a robot with conscience.

Actually, most animals, including us humans have a conscience/sentience and are self-aware. Definitely all the animals that humans eat are as alive as you or I, so if Batman isn't a hypocrite, he should be vegan.

Maybe insects might be fine (I don't know how sentient they are, nor do I think there have been any tests done on them).

Honestly, that would be a great idea. It doesn't do much to change the character while also supporting a great cause! Do it DC!!!

As far as Batman is concerned, as long as he didn't kill the animal himself he's not technically a killer and it wouldn't be the first time his character was saved by a technicality.

Hence a suggestion to reboot the DC Continuity with young Bruce swearing to be vegan after his parents were killed by anti-vegan protestors during their campaigning against meat... something like that, the details of the idea may need polishing but the general idea is there.

Arguments saying that you cannot be peak human if you are a vegan is appealing too much to realism. Batman is a work of fiction aiming to create suspension of disbelief. It is pretty obvious that a peak human like that of Batman who can excel in many fields doesn't exist in real life, but story-readers accept it anyway.

It wouldn't stretch much of a belief to have a vigilante who decided to work within vegan principles.

We know that plants sense, learn, communicate, remember, react and tons of other things.

Also it has being shown some plants react at losing parts of itself, others share nutrients and water with plants that would be from "the same family" and other tons of things.

The reason why people say plants and insect are not self aware as "more advanced" animals, is based on the fact plants and insects dont have brain, what so ever this would limit the concepts of conscience and sentience.

That a being is not conscious like human understand conscience doesnt mean is not conscious.

There are tons of people who are vegans without getting their parents murdered and if the Waynes were campaining against meat, then Bruce (in your story) would probably be a vegan before his parents were murdered. After that he chooses to fight a war against meat eaters so Batman starts a war against most of the population on the planet? You want Batman to fight innocent people who didn't do anything against the law?

@makhai: with the majority of people you do. I used to be (and still kind of am) into bodybuilding. Supplements don't work for a lot of people. You can ask anybody that is athletic and big how they maintain size and your answer will most likely be "you got to eat a lot. No supplement works as good as food."
