Tell me what you guys think:
Shared Universes
Marvel is killing it with their shared universe in the films though. You also didn't mention Marvel and the netflix shows. What do you think of what they are doing there? Daredevil seems to have a lot of good hype and people looking forward to watching. Agents of Shield could have been better sure but as the characters grew so did the show.
I don't really watch much TV but one of the few shows I watch does happen in the winter...The Walking Dead. Can't wait for this next season! Then it's GOT 'till the summer movies.
@irishx: I touched on the netflix shows. This topic was not about Agents of Shield being good or bad, but if a shared universe was good for them.
@haydenclaireheroes: First the DNA of comics is connect characters not separate them, second i didn't understand well but i think you mentioned that the Netflix series will not be a part of MCU and they are a part of MCU characters that appear in AOS could appear in DD everything is connected in the MCU.
You miss the all point of the MCU success, it's based on good movies, but the innovation in Cinema was the shared universe that is the Marvel Studios brand flag...(WB, Sony and Fox) want their own shared universes.
The cinema still is above Tv series the gap is smaller but Hollywood still makes the laws and the law now is shared universes, If the shared universes weren't the future why netflix made so long term deal with Marvel/Disney for the Defenders, netflix has a great potential in the future for new series and direct to television movies, they and HBO are key players in television at the moment and if netflix wants the shared universe it's because in their point of view has future!!!
@4thor: I did say the Netflix shows will be connected. I said all of the Marvel shows are connecting. I was questioning if this was a good thing or a bad thing.
I do agree it is a good thing that Marvel has a shared universe, but this was also a downfall for Agents of Shield. They had to wait for the next movie to progress their show.
My question is does DC do the same thing with them having more TV shows than Marvel.
@haydenclaireheroes: Sorry first i should mentioned in my first post that this to me is a great topic, and sorry again for the miss interpretation of the netflix series connections to MCU.
I agree with you MCU was a downfall for Agents of Shield in the first season, until cap 2 they didn't have any direction but in second season the rebuild of shield could be a great plot and will not influence MCU next movie AAU, but depend on the movies plot it's never good because kills some of your own creativity.
I respect your opinion but i see things in different perceptive i m more a cinema person and i think that could be more confusing have a Superman copy (Supergirl tv series) with no connection to DCCU (MOS and B v S), same powers connected origins story's and no reference of each other? also a Flash series hurts a possible future Flash movie, if you can see him for free why to pay? and the Suicide Squad movie will have Arrow characters ? new casts? and people and fans don't you think will start to debate who is the better Flash Tv or movies? From the business perspective it's always better not have repeated characters in Entertainment media's. Marvel also has one repeated character Quicksilver, but Dc with all this new series could have many! For people that have no connection to comics and don't read variety, have more than one version of the same character could also be confusing maybe not so much in US but worldwide i m sure there will be a lot of confusions!
In the end i give to you the lack of creativity for the connected TV series (AOS and Agent Carter), not so much the Netflix Tv series because they don't have a global presence like shield, they are limited to the Hell's Kitchen, but lets wait and see for the plot, but i think you will agree that it's not good for any entertainment show to repeat characters, you can't talk about DC series ignoring the next DC movies, if the movie universe DCCU didn't exist i would understand better your point.
Again great topic :).
@haydenclaireheroes: Pretty much agree with all of your points in the vid. It would be cool if they could pull off a seamless tv/movie continuity, but the world has many seams. TV shows can store so much more continuity then movies (Example: Average series-12-13 hrs per season; Arrow-23 hrs per season; Full length superhero film-2 to 3 hrs) that it would be nearly impossible to connect the two without slowing down the momentum of one show to build up the upcoming film (hence, the AoS dilemma).
@4thor: I totally understand that we both have two different opinions, which I respect. That is why I do these topic videos to hear other people's opinions. I am glad you commented and enjoyed the topic overall.
I am more of a television person than I am a movie person. (Even though I love movies also)
I can agree with your opinion on repeating characters. This may hurt DC for the cinematic universe, but it also means we may get some really great TV shows with these characters.
@haydenclaireheroes: if we all agree in everything it was boring! waiting for your next topic and tube videos! :)
