When a character appears on several titles, how does the story carry through. I mean do they intersect or occurring parallel to one another or something else? And is it the best way to do it? And what is it good for?

In the '80 there were 4 spider-man titles on sell. Sometimes the stories were connected and went through all magazines (clone saga...), but ussualy they didn't. You could read one title and don't give a damn about other. Of course there often is references to other comic books and sometimes they have some effect on another (for example if the hero has broken his arm or rib or spine in the comic), but it's nothing big.

Depends. In essence the concept has us stretching our suspension of disbelief in regards to the when it's happening as long as they're part of the same main reality/timeline. You see some comics show that at times they do indeed intersect at times but only enough to make references for the most part it's only referenced about story arcs are meant to stand on their own within their own titles. In terms of fleshing out the character sometimes yes it can at times be the best way. Take the Batman books, the main Batman book is being done well but there's no time to fit or focus on Bruce and Damian's father son dynamic within the Batman title so you have Batman and Robin where there's a platform that specifically caters to that aspect of story telling.

It would also explain what it's good for. It allows for immediate fleshing out of a character see them encounter situations that test them differently with the main downside is that other characters won't get the spotlight that some of them deserve.
