After seeing some of the new titles Image will be releasing this year, I made a decision to start reading more comics outside Marvel and DC. I started reading Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Irredeemable, and X-O Manowar and I like each of those series. Can anyone recommend other titles outside Marvel & DC that I should check out? Also, I want to read some comics that deal with: Vampires, Westerns, superheros outside Marvel & DC, spies, supernatural, crime, & Sci-Fi. If anyone knows any good titles that fall within those categories, let me know and I will check them out.

If you want a series with vampires, which also includes werewolves and werebears, Ursa Minor has been O.K. so far.

For westerns, there's Pretty Deadly, though it has some supernatural elements, so it's not quite a traditional western.

Saga. It is the best comic I have ever read! I honestly can't recommend that book enough. I have never heard someone dis on it. If you have a smart phone or tablet, download the image comics app or Comixology because the first issue is free. Do it!! You won't regret it!!

As for other books I would recommend, Bloodshot, Shadowman, Saga, Any of the current Transformers series, Saga, The Walking Dead, The Sandman, Saga, American Vampire and Saga.

Crime:

100 bullets a man travels around with a suitcase and offer people that they can kill anybody they want. They will walk free and will not be traced. Written by Brian Azzarello.

Sci-Fi:

Saga: A Romeo and Julie story set in space opera setting. Wriiten by Brian K. Vaughan.

Transmetropolitan: A journalist comes back to the city after having lived 5 years (IIRC) in the woods because he is out of money. He gets a job and is then beginning to write about the political corruption and the problems that are in the city while he living a rock and roll life. Both his lifestyle and his writings puts him in al sorts of problems. It is hilarious.

Supernatural: ¨

Sandman (even though it is technical owned by DC it is printed by vertigo and has nothing to do with the normal DC universe). I have a hard time describing this series. It is a set of families that has different set of supernatural powers. However it is great..

Preacher: A priest gets possessed by a god and bad angel and that turns around his views about god.

If your looking for superheroics you should pick up Suicide Risk. It's a Boom! title written by Mike Carey with art by Elena Casagrande. It's about a world where superpowers have just started emerging, which has lead to a huge influx of villains but not so many heroes. It's an amazing title and one of my favourite monthlies. You should definitely check it out.

Quantum & Woody has been a personal favorite since it's reboot. It is genuinely funny and a great read every month. It is the only book that literally makes me laugh out loud and I highly recommend it.
