I've been trying to branch out from DC and Marvel. I've been picking up some Image and IDW stuff. But I picked up BloodShot today and couldn't be more happy. I was curious if there are other comic companies that are great, but don't get much spotlight.

Just realized the typo in the title.

For non DC and Marvel i really liked Gen 13, Danger Girl, Fathom, Bomb Queen, and Battle Chasers.

I know that this is a miniseries and it is hard to get(it was made in the 90's), the Violator miniseries by Alan Moore was great

@jwalser3: Well, based on the November edition of my community poll Comic Vine Votes! - Best of the Month,

  1. Saga #7 (image)
  2. Shadowman #1 (Valient)
  3. Mind the Gap #6 (Image)
  4. The Walking Dead #104 (image)
  5. Masks #1

were the Best Non-Marvel or DC Comic of the month of November (and that includes comics published by Dynamite, Image, Vertigo Boom! IDW, etc.)

I liked a mini series called Snarked! which was geared toward younger and fans of Lewis Carrol. currently in the Indie category, I am reading Steed & Mrs. Peel by Mark Waid. However, as that series is just a few issues in I can't say whether or not I recommend it yet...

There are a lot of wonderful indie comic series depending on:

  • what genre you like (for horror Walking Dead is probably the most popular)
  • how recent the comic you are interested in purchases has to be (are you wanting something you have to go to a Comic book store to buy and continue collecting? or would you like to buy graphic novels or back issues over the net and collect a series which has already concluded?)

  • Transmetropolitan
  • The Walking Dead
  • Goon
  • The Boys
  • Legacy (starwars comics generally aren't great but this series was fantastic)
  • Axe Cop (only if you're in the mood for complete ridiculousness)

To be honest, I'm up for anything to check out. Back issue or not.

I'd like to see some cool Alien books. Like aliens invading Earth. Or maybe some underground Superheroes that don't get enough of the spot light. All suggestions are welcome. That's why I wasn't so specific in the OP.

@SupremeHyperion: What is Great Pacific about?

Too effin' many. Already made so many posts about this subject too.
Since Vertigo hasn't gotten enough love in this thread so I'm just going with that.

Invincible! I hadn't read any 3rd-party comics and I easily fell in love with this title. Almost finished with it already.

#19 Posted by jwalser3 (5279 posts) - - Show Bio

@lightsout is there a TPB for Invincible? I dont have time to collect all #100

#20 Posted by lightsout (1836 posts) - - Show Bio

Yep, there's a good number of collections. The CV page for the title shows the groupings http://www.comicvine.com/invincible/49-17993/

From Dark Horse Hellboy, Blade of the Immortal, Beserk, Lone Wolf and Cub(one of if not the greatest stories I've ever read in any medium), Black Beetle. Image Comics: Saga, Fatale, Walking Dead, Invincible, Manhatten Projects, Red Wing. Dynamite Comics: The Boys. Valiant Comics: XO Manowar, Shadowman, Bloodshot. Vertigo: American Vampire, Scalped, Sandman, Animal Man, Northlanders, Swamp Thing. BOOM! Comics: Irredeemable.

#23 Posted by CharlieJade (415 posts) - - Show Bio

yeah Dynamite has some good comics now

Lady Death, and pretty much anything from Chaos! comics

Why is Dark Horses and valiant seen as independent? Valiant owns their comics just like DC and Marvel does. So does Dark Horses and it was only the Dark Horses Legend that was creator owned. If you want to be even more strict shouldn't the artist release it by herself/himself to be truly independent?

#27 Edited by captainsaul (140 posts) - - Show Bio

@the_tree: Agree with all of them. I think saga and the star wars comics should be included though.

Knighty Knight Publishing offers SleepRunners. If you like SleepRunners on Facebook, you will get a free download code for issue 1. The first issue is a double sized full color book, and a very good read.
