Am I wrong in thinking this? The photo on the left is from "Captain America XXX: an Axel Braun Parody".

Why is it that Bryan Singer needs to redesign these characters and not just make them look like their comic book versions? We've all seen "The Avengers", so there's proof that the original designs can work onscreen.

OM...wow...just...this is too good. This made my day.

You're spot on. This may seem harsh, but it seems like any director who makes changes like this - they just want to put their mark on the character/franchise (aka: look at me! I'm a part of it's history!), try to stand out as an "artist". The "more realistic" excuse is BS because then you'd just go simple all-black like the orig. X-Men trilogy. There was no sensible reason to make QS look like that. I hope he looks "normal" in Avengers2 & there's some subtle middle-finger to everyone behind that redesign (that says "we made him look the way the fans wanted & it worked perfectly ;p " )

I don't see why they felt the need to buy him the cheapest wig ever and put that stupid looking thing on his face.

Wow, he actually looks like Quicksilver and that costume looks awesome. What a "shame" it's being "wasted" on pornog.

I clicked on this thread expecting to be trolled to some extent. Imagine the look on my face when it turns out that the OP is actually right. Maybe it's all relative, seeing such a terrible costume from Singer's version makes every other costume look superior.

Quicksilver's costume is so simple, the porn didn't have to do a lot to get it right.

#15 Posted by longbowhunter (7002 posts) - - Show Bio

So Pricksilver here gets an accurate comic book costume and Evan Peters gets stuck looking like a baked potato with goggles?

#16 Posted by goobot (516 posts) - - Show Bio

I think the reasoning is that it is the 70's and quicksilver is a teen rather than an adult.

This is very true. The exact same costume in green would look much better compared to it.

#18 Posted by cattlebattle (12669 posts) - - Show Bio

I don't see what the problem is. The guy on the left looks like he is in a cheap costume made for a porn film...which.....shudder...he is. The guy on the right is wearing a silver jacket and has goggles presumably because moving quickly would do some damage to your eyes.

If people can suspend heir disbelief to a point where they can watch a dude dress up like the american flag, and throw a shield like a frisbee, and find that perfectly acceptable but yet think some kid in a silver coat is too ridiculous, there is no hope for you. Kill yourself.

Lol this is great!! Marvel's characters are represented better in porn than they are by Singer hahahahahah!!!!

#20 Posted by lightsout (1827 posts) - - Show Bio

@cattlebattle: I don't think it's a case of "too ridiculous", I think it's more of ugly/serves no purpose/odd-characterization (a "club kid" as some have called him). As it was mentioned before, Cap was able to have his comic-costume & not look "out of place" (b/c the people who made the movie created an environment where it was not out of place), so Quicksilver's very simple comic costume could easily translate. All of the changes (as a whole - as eye protection is a reasonable qualm) were unnecessary. It was as Singer (/whoever else was involved) was like "Look at me! I made a mark on the legacy of X-men! I'm creative!".

D***silver looks more convincing than the actual movie Quicksilver. That's just sad. And if D***silver ends up looking better than Avengers 2 Quicksilver it will be even sadder

Can I just say I'm loving the genital-themed parodies of Quicksilver's name? Great stuff, keep it up folks.

Bryan Singer admitted that he never read a comic book before making X-Men.

From what I can see, Axel Braun knows his comic books (maybe he's secretly a Viner...?)

The problem is it looks like it came out of a 99 cent store. I've seen cosplayers do a better job.

The cosplayers often seem to be better craftsmen since they understand the characters and are willing and able to devote more time to getting the details right. There are a lot of talented artists out there who didn't get the right opportunities to cross the boundary from enthusiast to professional - and many of these enthusiasts don't want to. Often, the professionals are under time pressure from various sources to craft their costumes and are often given conflicting direction from non-fans. It's too bad that having a larger budget doesn't necessarily translate to better ideas or better execution.

If Caps environment made it easily digestible, how is Quicksilvers not?? Have you seen the movie?? From what we know he is a teenager, living in the 70s, that possesses the power to run at super speed. There are no real super heroes in the X-Men movie universe, so why would he dress in a super hero costume? He is a kid in a silver jacket with goggles, I fail to see how this anymore ridiculous than a guy who flies around in a tight blue outfit and red cape.

I don't think it's anyone saying "hey, look at me" and is more of a case of what would a guy that called himself "Quicksilver" dress like, and what would be practical for him to wear.

Exactly, Bane looked like Scorpion from Mortal Kombat in military fatigues. Didn't effect how the character was utilized or his performance in the movie.

Pahahahaha..It's funny and sad at the same time that a freaking XXX parody where the costume will come off for most of the 'film' looks better than a costume that will stay on the character for the film's duration. Though when the Wonder Woman costume first hit the net, I heard rumours that the porn director, Axel Braun or whatever his name is, is actually a big superhero fan and goes for a lot of accuracy in his superhero costume designs.

How odd that the same costumes used in porn can be used at Comic Con

I wouldn't be surprised if he was. Another character appearing in the Captain America parody is Batroc the Leaper. :P Don't think it's possible to not read comics but at the same time know who Batroc is lol unless he happens to do research. But I mean, if he is a comic book fan, he's more of one than Bryan Singer is lol
