Quick question

As a life long marvel fan, I never really picked up a DC book until my friend insisted I try a Kevin smith batman book. I've been reading DC comics for roughly 6 months now, and when I read about characters on here, a lot of people refer to characters as "Pre-crisis" and "Post Crisis" and I was curious which crisis they refer to, since most events in DC end in the word "crisis"

The term "Pre-Crisis" refers to events and/or characters that took place before DC's Crisis on Infinate Earths arc. Which effectively re-booted DC's comics universe. It is rarly ever referred to by DC comic characters as "Pre-Crisis".
