Predictions on Force Awakens box office

I'm expecting just over a bill maybe near 2 if they market right.

1.5 billion is Avengers 1 and Furious 7 level...3rd and 4th all time. I think that's doable. 2.2 billion is Titanic and 2.8 billion is Avatar. I don't think it'll get anywhere near those. I'll go 1.5 billion-1.75 billion.

Even though I think it will be profitable, I still wish there was a bomb option. ;)

@manofsteel2013: You do realize that Phantom Menace would have made over $1.5 B with today's inflation. That was before China was a viable movie market and without the original stars being part of the movie which is a bigger draw than Liam Neesom and kid Vader. I think $1.2 would be a minimum. If its good it will come close to $2B. Only thing working against it is being released in Dec.

Less than $2 billion

a billion is almost a given just because of the name Star Wars, but to make more it will have to be good. Very good.

Its coming off negative momentum from the prequels, so that is not going to help.

If if is good though, then Episode 8 will likely set the record for movie box office.

@fallschirmjager: I don't think the prequels will have much of any negative impact on tFA since Lucas has no involvement. If anything, the prequels only help since they introduced a new generation to sw and got them hooked on the cartoon spin offs.

I gotta say, if JJ Abrams and the crew can do a lot of good justice towards the new star wars movie, I think It will gross over a Billion dollar in North America alone considering the amount of expectation and hype surrounding this film. Globally, it will be very likely to cross over 3 Billion dollars, while 4 Billion is also possible.

Total Gross: $1.04 Billion USD

Opening Weekend: $632 million USD

Total Gross: $2.8 - $4.1 Billion USD

If Furious 7 can make $1.5 billion, I dont see how Star Wars cant make $2 billion.

It will probably not get to 3 billion. Avatar has the highest box office. I hate avatar but it cannot be denied that people watched it more than any other movie in theaters.

Yae but its percentage has already dropped over 33% from it opening weekend and it still hasnt even hit 2 billion yet. Avatar is over 3 million. Through calculation estimation it wont reach it in time.

it just broke the record of 88.3 million this week , Star wars has about another 2-3 weeks before taken out of theaters , then you had Blu-Rays , digital download, and TV Flatscreen specials , it can easily break 3 million especially this one of the movies people rewatch 2-4 times

@birdman400: It definitely has more than 2-3 weeks left in theaters dude. More like 2-3 months. Non theater revenue does not get factored into its total box office either. Also still has yet to open in most of Asia.
