Hi, I've been on the hunt for a decent community, this looks like a winner (i hope)

anyway, i haven't read too much, few blue beetle issues, few iron man issues, Preacher and i've only recently caught up on Invincible which is by far my favorite so far.

i was wondering if someone could suggest some series that i may like? knowing i liked preacher and invincible. (main things i really liked about them was the sheer violence, power and bad ass-ness of some characters [saint of killers - preacher, Allen the alien, battlebeast and all the Vultrimite - Invincible] )

any suggestions would be awesome. thanks.

I LOVE Invincible.

I would recommend The Boys (if you can handle the books themes), it's supposed to mock modern-day heroes in a substantial way,

Irredeemable and Incorruptible are also excellent,

Keep going with Iron Man,

Try out some Thor issues, I'm loving the current God of Thunder run,

Read Saga - Saga is an absolutely astounding series so far

and if you want then maybe try out the likes of Spawn or Green Arrow.

@carbon_rod: I would first get a few Trades to get your self interested in some characters, They make a great jumping on point I recommend Civil War, Planet Hulk and Superior Spiderman vol.

You should try out

  • X-O manwar
  • Wolverine (Its just started a new arc called Killable)
  • All New X-men (Its about to start an event)

What characters are you interested in?

I'd say Irredeemable. It is violent. I loved it but I dislike it... in a way... it's a long story.

I ... rather not spoil it. I'd recommend Irredeemable for sure though. I'd recommend more but you like violent ones and I am not too familiar with violent comics. Are you trade waiting or buying single issues?

At the end Welcome to ComicVine! I hope you join the communities weekly voting segments thanks to K4tz

Since you enjoyed Preacher and just violent books you may want to try out The Boys from Garth Ennis who also wrote Preacher and maybe Spawn or Kick-Ass.

But if you just want books with amazing storytelling then try out Saga,The Walking Dead,Animal Man and Thor:God of Thunder.

@carbon_rod: Welcome to the vine :)

If you haven't read many comics before, the reboot of DC comics, or The new 52, is a very good place to start.

Action comics/Superman/Superman unchained could be interesting.

The flash, is one of the best comics around, it has engaging story as well as fine art.

Justice league, however, is my personal favourite. It's always fun to see the superheroes getting introduced and interacting..

And obviously, try Batman; the dark knight. Reason is simple.. He's batman!

As for Marvel, Marvel Now! series is equally good.

Specially, Thor: The God of thunder. seemed most interesting.

Avengers, and uncanny X men are good, too.

Followed by Indestructible hulk, and spiderman titles.

If you want to try something new and equally exciting, these manga titles are really worth taking a look:

Full metal alchemist: The series is now complete, and it still has one of the best plots I've read. It may take some time to get engaged in, but once you do, you don't put it down.

Naruto: This has much more material to read, over 600 chapters. But one of the best manga currently around to start from.

If you enjoy a lighter read with more fun element, but still having a deep and complex rooting without getting too serious, Try one piece. It's literally THE most fun manga to read.. but beware of the wacky art, if you can bear it for a while, you'll notice it actually suits the lighthearted tone of the manga..

History's strongest disciple: kenichi: It's about a high-schooler who learns martial arts, and gradually becomes a master. you get to see a lot of incredible concepts here, that you don't find in comics, or elsewhere.

If you're more into art and style, try bleach. They have a lot of stylish characters and attacks, some nice plot twists, and some things you can surely debate on battle forums.

Hope that helped.

Find what you are interested in and pick up a trade. Go from there. If you are still interested get more trades or comics.

wow, so many responses! thanks everyone.

i picked the right community! - just need to learn how to use this website, it's laid out really differently than i'm used to.

i think i'll go through the list, might buy one or 2 tpb of each to see what ones i like best!

i don't know why, but i really have no urge to read any marvel/dc comics with superheroes who have made it to the big screen.

You should try Ennis' other work as well such as his Hitman and Punisher runs.

@carbon_rod: Welcome to Comic Vine!

I only read comics for Marvel and DC. I'm still deciding on what indie comic to start picking up.

Sorry I couldn't offer any suggestions. Oh! You may like Mike MIgnola's Baltimore? It's a great mixture of zombie-vampire awesomeness.
