Hey guys, we just rolled out a new notification system this afternoon. There are really two parts to the new system.

  1. Instant PM Notifications: You now receive instant PM notifications when somebody comments on your blog/image/etc, when somebody writes your wall, when you receive a friend request, and when you have a wiki submission approved. Each of these can be individually configured to be on or off from the Notification Preferences tab in your Profile Preferences.
  2. Roll-Up Email Notifications: Explained in detail below:

Roll-Up Email Notifications

The goal of these emails is keep you up to date with current activity happening around the site in a concise, short email roll-up that can be tailored to arrive daily, twice a week, once a week or never. We want these to be helpful updates of new content being posted to the site by your friends without being spammy or annoying.

Some info about the emails:
  • The notification emails will be a roll-up of activity that happened on the site since your last email
  • You can set the emails to arrive daily, twice a week or once a week

Feedback we're looking for:
  • We need to make sure that the emails arrive w/ the frequency you've selected. For instance, if you sign up for daily emails, we need to make sure that you're receiving daily emails.
  • We need to make sure that all of the activity being sent to you actually pertains to you.
  • We need to make sure that you can successfully modify your emails preferences.

The frequency of these emails can be configured by you in your notification preferences tab in your profile:
www.comicvine.com/myvine/{{ your_username }}/edit_notifications/

Thanks for helping out -- I'll be in touch with you over the week. Have a great weekend.

Email Notification Frequency:
  • Daily: Daily emails should arrive every morning
  • Bi-Weekly: Bi-Weekly emails should arrive twice a week on Thursday morning and Sunday Morning
  • Weekly: Weekly emails should arrive once a week on Monday mornings
  • Never: You can turn off these notifications altogether if you so desire

All of the whiskey media sites (www.giantbomb.com, www.comicvine.com) are considered separate entities - so yes, depending on your notification settings on each site, it is possible for you to get two separate emails with roll-up information in it. Note that both emails will contain activity generated separately on each respective site - so don't expect to get the same email from giantbomb as you do from comicvine.

Make sense?

If you're asking about each of your Comic Vine accounts, yes you'll get one for each, but you can easily set different prefs for the diff user accounts you've set up.

Also note that Coonce added some other changes including:

  • An "online now" notice in the boards and comments that show if a user is online.
  • Various activity notices in your profile for when you edit wiki pages, add friends...etc

When all the code is solid we're going to need a new logo for the front page.  ComicVine 2.1 anyone?

This is cool! :D One question: On our profiles, we got something called "Guides". What's that? Nothing happens when I click on it.

Oops, that went in a little too quickly. I dunno if we're gonna call it "Guides" over here, but basically we created a tool to build one-off pages that might not fit in a wiki and allow you to build a dynamic table of contents. You can see one in action over at Giant Bomb, our gaming site.

I can't update my bio....

When I try, I see the "500, style me DAVE!!!!!!!!!

I think it would be good if we where able to select more than one picture in or galleries at one time. Because when I want to delete a few pictures I have to go through them all. I tried deleting about 20 images and it took me a while.
