New member question

I just joined yesterday and I notice when I sign in next to my name there is a #2 with a red flag next to it and when I click on it two names come up and at the top of the names it says Following 18. Can someone please explain to me what it means?

The red flag you're talking about shows you how many people you're following are online. You're following 18 people, and the #2 was showing you how many people you're following were online at that moment.
