Love seeing Translucid there. Seriously i haven't seen anybody talk about it and it's easily been my favorite comic book last year.

As far as what's missing i would add Planet Hulk, X-Men: Magneto Testament, The Goon, BMB's Daredevil, We3, Harbinger, Heinberg's Young Avengers, Moore's Swamp Thing and Promethea vol.1, Sweet Tooth, Essex County, Persepolis, Maus, Pride of Baghdad, Immortal Iron Fist, Spider-Man: Blue, Geoff John's Shazam vol.1, Scott Pilgrim, Secret Six and Joe Kelly's Deadpool run

All deserving but the ones in bold are certainly must-reads in my book.

Well i'm surprised Harbinger wasn't listed since it's easily my favorite Valiant comic by far. It's also the second announced Valiant film they are gonna do after Bloodshot and really it's the ones Valiant fans are most excited about.

Planet Hulk is probably the best hulk story ever told and it's one of Marvel's best comics period. To me it's better than a lot of the marvel stuff listed like infinity gauntlet and silver surfer requiem which i loved. Also got adapted into one of the better marvel animated films and if you been following MCU news it is quite simply the most demanded and sought after Marvel film fans want.

BMB's Daredevil run is almost/equal to Frank Miller's run. The debate has been ongoing for years.

The Goon has a lot in common with Chew. Creator-owned comic book with heavy emphasis on comedy and amazing artwork. Another movie project as well this time on kickstarter a long time ago. It's known for having a rabid and loyal fan base. Look up the art i'll probably help in your decision. He also made a one shot called Satan's Sodomy Baby if that helps.

Sweet Tooth and Essex County are Jeff Lemire magnum opuses. Both extremely different thought with Essex being an earlier work with a slice of life in canada but with incredible emotional depth while Sweet Tooth is a post-apocalyptic fantasy books where human/animal hybrids exist and a plague as wiped out most of humanity. If i gotta chose i'd go Essex County for sure thought.

Persepolis and Maus must be on your list mostly for their cultural significance. Persepolis was made into a animated film and it's an autobiography about life in the Iranian revolution and Maus is an incredible life story about the holocaust with the twist being that all the characters are animals so Jews are mice, Germans(nazis) are cats, Poles are pigs, etc. Look up any must read list and Maus is often the first mentioned as it's that important of a story and comic.

Young Avengers is simply the best teen book i've read. Better than Runaways, Young Justice, Teen Titans. It isn't afraid to tackle truly hard topics whilst also reinventing old ones in amazing fashion like Drug use, Destiny, What truly makes a hero/villain, The cost of victory and The price one must pay to do actual good.

Pride of Baghdad is one of BKV finest works and you've seemed to have put all his others up already. It's the real life (fictionalized) story of this pack of lions who get free from the zoo when carpet bombings happened during the Iraq war. The Lions do speak so there is a plot but it's mostly about the artwork (look it up) and the subject matter that makes it special.

Immortal Iron Fist and Deadpool are both there because they are the definitive runs on both characters. Iron Fist is Franction/Aja (Hawkeye) and it simply is the only comic people will tell you to read if interested in the character. While Deadpool is the blueprint of everything he is. The balance between comedy/drama, his rogue's gallery and mostly everything Deadpool is formed and accomplished in this run. It's also the basis for the upcoming film.

Scott Pilgrim is unique in that it's a western manga comic book. Really funny and heartfelt and as most people know it's also responsible for one of the most unique films in the 2000's.

Secret Six is probably the best villain-centric comic books (i didn't read Thunderbolts and the like) It's had a big cult following ever since it's come out and has been brought back by dc recently mostly cause of demand. Cast as been incredible with original and classic rogues like Bane, Deadshot and Mad Hatter all being in the team at some point.

Spider-Man Blue is just one of the better Spider-man stories. You'll probably always seen it on people top ten sp list just like Hush always is for Batman. Heartfelt, nostalgic and fun it also is a love letter to Gwen Stacy and her importance in his life.

@pinecone: I'll do some editing tomorrow.

But you should list me your top 10 favorite comics.

Also what comic on the list would you have removed?

In going to read harbinger is their something I'm supposed to read before harbinger or just jump in?

@skyroid: I'd remove Bloodshot cause to me it was the second weakest Valiant comic. Ninjak, Nailbitter and Wicked+Divine cause it's just to early to tell. Spawn never read it but nobody talks about it anymore. Superman Earth One just isn't special for me. it's just a good superman story but nothing more.

1- Locke and Key
2- Planet Hulk

3-Watchmen

4- Ultimate Spider-Man

5- Maus

6- Bone

7- G.L.A (Great Lakes Avengers)

8- Young Avengers

9- Translucid

10- Invincible

Too early to tell but if it continues in quality they will definitely be on here: Afterlife with Archie, Southern Bastards and Moore's Swamp Thing (going through it right now). Also consistency is key, longer amazing runs like Green Lantern and Daredevil would be on the list if it weren't for the fact that some arcs were weaker or it just faltered in quality (gl everything during and post War of the GL's). Also weird ones like Owly and Pet Avengers are favorites of mine but they are also all age books that just don't gel well with known classics even thought to me they are equally as good.

I would say so. It is one of the better examples of the "Spider-Man loses his cool" trope, it also has the death of a major character (which is sometimes said to have kick-started the "Bronze Age"), and it has some memorable scene's concerning Norman Osborne's paranoid Schizophrenia, as well as a major turning point for Mary Jane's character development.

52 is also a must, just thought it now. Best weekly comic (marvel/dc) has done and it mostly shone a light on the b-c class heroes of the DCU like Steel, Animal Man, Booster Gold, The Question and Ralph Dipny who's story is a direct follow up to identity crisis and man is it powerful.

@skyroid:

Lack of Daredevil: Man Without Fear saddens me :'(

I guess you got Born Again on there, so that's fine :)

Also, gonna put my few cents in here on my favorites:

-Madman by Mike Allred (strange, but a good strange)

-The Deadpool Killogy by Cullen Bunn (i.e. Marvel Universe, Killustrated, etc. Enjoyable reads)

-Blackest Night by Geoff Johns

-Flashpoint (wasn't sure if this was on your list or not) by Geoff Johns

-Marvel Zombies by Various Authors (interesting and fun series)

-Axe Cop by Malachai and Ethan Nicolle (Nothing else like this series)

-Tank Girl by Jamie Hewlett and Alan Martin (definitely NOT everyone's cup of tea, but interesting regardless)

I'm sure there's more, but I'm too tired to name anything else

I read through the top 10s, there was an acceptable amount of 2000AD :D

Seems like lots of agreement between this and the "1001" book. Lots of EC comics recommended by people, always nice to see that. Surprised to see how often the Alec stories were brought up (I have a volume of those somewhere, I really should read it lol), also surprised to see Dr Slump mentioned by a few people, I think I will try to check that out, I need to check out Elfquest as well I think.

Moebius is a great artist but I don't think I've enjoyed any stories he's personally written, I know I'm in the minority there though lol
