@wolverine08:

Is it really a good romance though or is it just good in a classic sense?

No matter what you say, haters going to hate. Some are too stuck in the past with Lois Lane, some are Bat + WW shippers (worst pairing ever for the female involved), and some are afraid Wondy will get upstaged (they cannot even admit when Superman NEEDED her).

I can stay the same thing.

@deaditegonzo:

My thing about the S/W relationship is that, in my opinion, it has been handled poorly from a romantic perspective. Their "coming together" was just abrupt and shoe-horned IMO and though I LOVE the book the romance hasn't really captivated me. I see very little flirting and playfulness and I don't see many "cute" moments. It just doesn't feel like they're together because they want to be it feels like they're together because DC put them together. This is not because I don't believe Superman and Wonder Woman shouldn't be together. I've always ALWAYS wanted them together, I hated the Bruce and Diana relationship on JL, I just feel the writing hasn't been up to snuff when it comes to romance.

@sog7dc: A lot of times. All Star Superman for example. They also had mostly great moments throughout Post Crisis. Also it was greatly written outside of comics as well. Such as in Smallville.

@darkman61288:

See I agree it was compelling in Allstat (really though what plot point wasn't compelling in that book?) but in pre-52 DC I never cared about their romance. I've read a lot of pre52 Superman and it just seemed boring to me. I didn't watch Smallville so I can't comment on that

@sog7dc: I do agree a lot with your sentiment. I feel Soule is the first writer actually doing anything with it, but what he is doing is the best romantic content ive seen in a comic book in just about ever.

Even all the other classic pairings (Lois + Supes, MJ + Spidey) have one factor that is a bit disconcerting: the non-super character in the relationship simply depends completely on the Super character. Lois is probably the most guilty of this. She is considered a strong, feisty female character, except she is constantly getting herself in life or death situations and needing her a** saved by Supes. And he spends inordinate time, letting how many untold others be harmed, just to protect her. If I had one complaint of Man of Steel, it was the fact that I was thinking "WTF is Superman doing giving Lois so much attention while Metropolis is falling apart!?" If Lois wasnt in it, or wasnt in it as a love interest, that movie would be basically perfect.

#18 Posted by SOG7dc (10038 posts) - - Show Bio

@deaditegonzo:

My only complaint about the comic is that I want Soule to show me them being a couple and stop having them talk about being a couple. And we seem to agree a lot. I loved MOS from start to finish. My mom said I haven't lit up like that since I believed in Santa.

Oh, I forgot Kingdom Come. The overall most beautiful comic ever written, and the Diana + Clark relationship was superb in that. A marriage based on friendship and equal respect, and not a delusional concept like Love at First Sight.

I agree about All Star. It is the greatest Superman ever. But back on topic it is really a matter of opinion. The only time I have ever liked SM/WW was in Kingdom Come and that is because of it being presented as a closing chapter story. Other than that I hate it. How about in Lois and Clark and in the movies.

I never saw anyone else on here who felt that way. I just don't see the BFD with that story.

I didn't like it in mos because it happened too quickly for my taste. I feel like Lois should be hard to get. Clark should have to really earn her affection IMO.

Me neither. Especially the part with the nuke. I rage quit the first time I read that. And aside from that I thought it was campy, generic, anticlimactic and overall just ashore to read. This coming from a huge Superman and Mark Waid fan.

I would say that Bruce and Selina had a well-written romance through the pre-52 history, of course like every Batman romance, it has it issues but the good thing about that it was explored in numerous aspects: the gray areas, the potential that the relationship etc. Also Snow White and Bigby Wolf's romance was also well written, slow build-up but it was there.

I have always liked the tension and the love moments between Batman and Selina although they haven't had a realtionship that would've lasted.So apart from them either MJ and Peter or Lois Lane and Superman.

#32 Edited by AdamAnouer (418 posts) - - Show Bio

@wolverine08: That was initially my first reaction until I looked on Wikipedia and apparently they break up quite regularly because MJ doesn't like the pressure being Spider-Man put on their life. I was actually thinking Peter and Gwen Stacy solely for the fact it's sort of like the incomplete dream and they did love eachother until of course they introduced the infidelity with Norman Osborn during the retarded way of clearing up the clone wars saga.

Seriously have you ever seen anything more terrifying? Though to be fair I still think they wrote it well even though it did end in complete disaster.

#33 Posted by SanoHibiki (2096 posts) - - Show Bio

I can instantly say that Pre-New-52 Clois wasn’t the best written romance in comics.

As much as I want to vote for Clark/Diana, I think that this is too early for that. This relationship is too young. Maybe after ten or so issues of their book, but not now…

Personally, I like some portrayals of Arthur/Mera, Reed/Sue (when he is not complete douche) and Hawkman/Hawkgirl.

The one between Hugie and the Annie in the Boys, was very down to earth and moving. Also, the one between Butcher and his wife.

Also, I love the way the love story is presented in Ten Grand. The whole "when a woman loves you" speech is awesome.

Superman and Lois Lane. Superman and wonder woman isn't horrible but it is clichéd and just decent and they lack chemistry. Just putting that out there

No kidding! I havent seen a moment so touching, a romantic moment so effective, a romance that seemed so mutual, in all my years reading comics.
