I know with all the Mainstream series going on, some really good series don't get their do, and don't get the appreciation or respect they deserve.
What are some Manga/Anime series you guys feel are overlooked or unappreciated?
Planetes, Baccono, Ergo Proxy(little bias here), JJBA(outside of Japan), most of Osamu's seinen work, and most importantly Perfect Blue

Perfect Blue is so creepy, though. D:

But it's still so freaking good.
Samurai Champloo doesn't get enough praise.
Blue Exorcist doesn't get enough anything.
It kinda doesn't deserve that much, it's just an less cooler Bebop. Agreed on B.E though.
the Witchblade anime, yeah there is sure as hell alot of cheesecake and such is glorious, but there is also alot of heart and emotion to the story, its about a mother who will do anything to protect her daughter, and it is ultimately a beautiful tragedy.

Just saw it with a friend. I think I like it more than Kon's later work Paprika. I don't know man. That man was a genius.
1. Samurai Champloo
2. Wolf's Rain
3. Blue Exorcist (The anime TV series)
4. Berserk (The anime TV series)
Legit. Beserk is extremely underrated.
Yu Yu Hakusho and Rouroni Kenshin
I always thought yu yu hakusho was in the top 5 animes of all time. It doesn't get the praise it deserves.
Gundam Wing and the Tenchi series' always felt underrated to me. And while many DBZ fans give DBZ a bad name I always felt "hardcore" anime fans hate on it because of it's popularity. Cowboy Bebop is a fantastic anime that I feel many haven't given themselves a chance to enjoy.
@granitesoldier: I've heard a lot about it. Is it that good?
@dbvse7: Cowboy Bebop? It's a great show. Good action, story, characters, and a very unique environment and feel for the show. It's hard to explain, but it is greatness.
@granitesoldier: Alright I'll deffinitly check it out.

idk what it was about cowboy bebop but i never had an ounce of real interest in that anime. i think its highly overrated!
Not many people might know this one but it is a personal favorite of mine, Karin (Chibi Vampire here in the U.S.) I like the whole reverse vampire aspect of it. More of a Comedy/Romance type deal. Another one would be Hajime no Ippo ( Fighting Spirit) I never was interested in boxing but this series has me hooked, though I could never understand why sports anime/manga never took of here.
I would say it's easier to call out overrated series than underrated ones. Most decent series have a pretty strong cult following, or something to that effect. Until recently, I'd readily have called HunterxHunter one of the most underrated series of all time, but it's surge in popularity has certainly changed that.
In my opinion, the most underrated series would probably be D. Gray Man, Jojo (specifically in the west), Gundam Wing (though it was the first gundam to break into the west, many people have criticized it for rather lame reasons IMO), and I'm sure a few others that may come to me over the course of the day.

ippo is generally considered one of, if not the premier, sports series. I wouldn't really call it underrated. As a side note, I've always considered Karin to be a solid show, better than many of the standardized Romance that comes out of anime, but not exactly stand out in any fashion.
