Monsters That Can ACTUALLY Contend with Godzilla?

We get tons of Jira vs. threads on this site, and no monster is ever considered worthy (I agree). Me and a few other people have often pondered this question... so..

Outside of Godzilla's "Rouges Gallery", who can actually put up a decent fight with him?

The Kraken & Slattern are the two most popular choices. But they've both been debunked pretty easily.

Gamora would be a good fight.

Depending on the version rayquaza could probably match godzilla.

In the the Prose and Poetic Edda he is described as being very big, Even the Aesir fear him! He cut Týr the god o war hand and In Ragnarök he will eat Odin the king of the Asgardians!

Marvel versions of Jörmungandr and Fenrir aren't always accurate with the Eddas descriptions but In the series AEMH s01ep 26 He was pretty big!

I checked Rayquaza's stats... He's only 23ft tall and weighs less than 500lbs.

Thats why i said depending on the version. In certain versions he is larger than that. But anyways size doesnt win the fight automatically unless your just looking for monsters who are as big as godzilla in this thread. Raywquaza controls the weather and can destroy meteors casually and he is vastly faster than godzilla.

@those_eyes: That's true, but size does matter a lot with Jira. I mean his newest iteration is over 500 ft tall and weighs 90,000 tons.

Gamera could be, depending on what version of Godzilla you use (obviously not amalgam). Most of the great monsters in movies come from his rogues gallery or and no where near his size, so it sort of becomes a stomp...literally.

Mos tof the great monsters? Godzilla's monsters tend to be at his size, or bigger. The real threats, anyway.

King Ghidora is almost twice his size. Destroyah outweighs and outsizes Godzilla too. Don't even get me started on Orga and Biollante either.

@nickthedevil: I meant like the Wolfman, the dinosaurs in Lost World, King Kong...they are all great and famous monsters outside Godzillas villains and he would literally stomp them. Size against Godzilla isn't a factor because like you point out he fights monsters larger than himself regularly.

I guess I wasn't clear in my statement.

Assuming this one of the more balanced versions of 'zilla there is the

• Midgard Serpent, but that makes Godzilla look like an ant in comparison so possibly out of 'zilla's league.
• Ogdru Jahad out of Hellboy
• Typhon out of Greek Mythology
• Think the Prometian from the Superman Animated series could put up a good fight
• That Kryptonian Dragon that Superman had to put down at the beginning of H'El on Earth

I am pretty curious how someone came to that conclusion, because I took the side of the Kraken vs. the 2014 Godzilla and no one could come up with a legitimate reason it would actually loose other than: "It has no feats." Which to me is a cop out answer since Godzilla is nearly the only massive monster that takes on other massive monsters.

True he has no feats, but he was also slain very quickly in the film. Unfortunately the stats on Kraken are pretty hazy, but based on what we briefly saw in the film, I think it's pretty safe to say that Kraken doesn't have the mass that Jira has.

And I agree that Mid-gard shouldn't be allowed to compete. He's as big as the world in some stories.

I found this on another site, I can't say it's 100% accurate, but it's something:

But I think you are correct, 'zilla has more mass, the Kraken however looks to be faster and has half a dozen extra arms it can attack with. In regards to the Atomic Breath i know some zilla fans like to think of an 'I win' button, the 2014 version didn't look that terribly impressive. In regards to the Kraken I took into consideration that it was created to do a specific job, and that was to kill or capture the likes of Kronos that appeared to be the size of a small mountain.

@outside_85: Yeah I've seen that before. It's tough to compare them since we didn't really get to see Kraken do anything... Jira was a bit rusty in '14 though. He definitely hadn't fought anything in a long time. Assuming that Jira's atomic breath is strong enough to slice thru the Kraken's skin, he could probably burn off a few of Kraken's arms and make it easier for him.

@eyedcyou: Well thats an assumption it would actually do that, but I dont know if the breath contains anything more than heat and radiation? And the Kraken visibly has an outer layer of armor that covers atleast the important part of it. (If you see the scene where it gets out of the harbor, it's head has been covered by plates that slide back before it bellows.)

True true... I'm still not sure if Kraken could beat him, but to answer the question in the OP... he could definitely contend.
