Why is this a big deal at all exactly? Not like there haven't been other characters in positions like that. So....what? Also I really hardly see anything sexual about that image.

because this is the internet.

@crom_cruach: Go on....because I still don't see it. Images are like that and worse are all around the net, so what's so shocking about this one?

There's nothing special about this picture and there doesn't need to be for a raucous to be raised. Because no matter how minor or typical something might be. Once you put it on the internet and spread it around enough, it will catch the eye of someone who will be offended and start his own private campaign over it. That's how the internet works.

What's the big deal? People don't seem to understand that different artists have different styles and that is Manara's style. If they don't like it and are not a fan of what he drew then don't buy it.

It\s that simple!

Its political correctness.

Political correctness or not, Marvel hired the guy completely well knowing what his style was and they still gave him the job to do a variant cover for Spider-Woman and later acted completely innocent when everyone started whining.

It's weird that people started whining about this one. He has worked with Marvel before and done a lot more sexual stuff.

I wonder how many superheroes would be hospitalized by now if they had realistic skeletal structures.

The entire spider family would be a start for one.

Political Correctness is so annoying. There is nothing wrong with a comic book babe being drawn in a sexy way, anyone that is offended by that needs to get over it and focus on actual important issues.

Spider powers allow them to do it. Doesn't save non-spider women from breaking their spines form twisting too far.

Oh please.

Every Spider character is always drawn in some sort of weird pose that demonstrates their wirey-ness and flexibility. Their agility is a main stay for all Spider-related characters.

That pose is nothing we haven't seen a hundred times over for Peter or any other spider character.

But because its a woman all of a sudden its a problem of over-sexed art? Give me a freaking break.

I've seen FAR worse covers and even they didn't offend me. This didn't' even register as something sexual to me to be honest. Jess has one of the most conservative costumes for females I've seen. The only thing I see is a Spider character posing in a Spidery way

How do you know she is getting ready to jump and not already landed ? If she was facing the other way those diagrams might hold some weight.

If I'm gonna look at pictures, they may as well be hyper sexualized.

@rev_sulphur: They didnt notice it.

@tdk_1997: The fact some people online overreact to everything, Marvel and DC shouldnt care for nutjobs with too much free time.

You can see people get kill in comics, have promiscuous sex, characters being terribly racist, violence, use of drugs and alcohol.

Wolverine cant smoke his cigar, but can cut people into tiny pieces.

Because is politically correct.

@cave_duck: This happens to male characters too, but no one cares.

People just try to cry of something, if only male characters in comic were sexualized and objectified, you will hear women crying in the fact this dont happens to female characters, so male characters were treated in a special way and for the same it would be sexism.

Yeah, there have been some way more sexual covers from Manara before which didn't seem to get that much of negative responses.

Oh please. Marvel hired this guy specifically for this type of art and they got what they paid for. Manara provides top notch comic porn. This is an extremely sexually variant cover. As a fan of Jessica, I can do without it because it's targeted at people who want that (I don't). I just won't buy it. But hey, Marvel got what they wanted, which was controversy and apparently it's what sells. At least they are going to make a lot of money off it.

Shame on Marvel, either way since the character deserves to be treated better. For those who claim Spider-Man has been shown in the same way, gtfo. What a joke. I have yet to see Peter's luscious ass laid out so appealingly in gossamer thin latex.

That's my problem with this situation- Marvel marketed Spider Woman as a book aimed at getting women and young girls interested in comics. Then hire a well-known comic-porn artist as a cover artist? Which anyone could see alienating their target audience.

Does Marvel want to encourage female readers or not?

Saying that he's done worse isn't a valid defence, nor is saying that males are subjected to similar treatment.

@cave_duck: Exactly. I don't get how this can be defended, honestly. This isn't about prudishness, or censoring an artist. It was a boneheaded editorial decision and flies in the face of all the recent good stuff Marvel had been pumping out lately.
