Between Marvel or DC Comics which comics have more Characters?

How can you possibly know, it's like counting the stars.
I'm just wondering. That's it.
@amalgamdcmarvel8: Yeah but there are too much, so we can't know...
If you mean who has the best quantity of heroes that I/we/whoever-is-asked likes? I'd say Marvel, I'm a DC guy, but after Batman & Superman, Marvel has at least 10 characters until the next DC dude/lady shows up.
When it comes to villains, DC got this, with just Batman alone they got this on lock.

I don't mean the alternate versions of Batman whose Bruce Wayne or anything like that. I just want the main Characters. If you could just guess which one does seem have less characters.
To me I think DC have less than Marvel but then again I just watch Batman when I was younger in my childhood. I watch X-men more than Superman.
Thanks for you guys help. I'll hope this thread will be a long going. I just least everybody on this forum least comment on this thread least once.
According to comicvine, Marvel currently has 15918 Characters, and DC has 13156 Characters. :)

That doesn't sound right.
@dagmar_merrill: How come?

The difference is to big.

@dagmar_merrill: If I've worked this out correctly, Marvel has produced 36015 issues, and DC has produced 37587, which when you divide these numbers by the number of characters produced, shows that Marvel produces a new character every 2.26 issues, while DC produces a new character every 2.86 issues, on average. That would roughly mean that Marvel produces 5 characters for every 4 that DC creates.
Could it be that Marvel has more because they seem to be a little more focused on team comics than DC?
DC has been around longer, so I'd say they have more characters overall.
Not with multiple reboots.

The characters are still there.
@tupiaz: That doesn't increase the number of characters does it?

If you have been around longer then you have the opportunity to make more characters. DC's reboots has increased characters like multiple Hawkmen, Green Lanterns and Flashes.

I have seen it. The point is that a reboot doesn't destroys characters, like you said:

But created more since we have gotten more flashes, Hawkmen, Green Lanterns and what not because of this. Second comic vine is hardly a prove but more an indication of how many characters there are in the universes.
@tupiaz: who cares anyway?
Let's name all of the characters.
you are crazy to do that.
@hyperbertha: I CARE cause I'm going sell my Prince Hood to DC or Marvel/Disney. After I publish my book.

And those are counting the ones on Comic Vine. Just imagine if they counted every character in Marvel's earlier anthologies (know for a fact those characters aren't all there) what with all the monsters and characters that appear for the one story never to return again. Curious though is that just Marvel and DC proper or are their sub studios also included?
Well, Prince Hood would of course be best suited to being sold to whichever company wants to buy him. The number of characters doesn't matter because frankly Prince Hood will not be on a major or even minor team for many many years, which is where he would be recognized by fans.
Even new creations in the industry like The Hood or The Sentry from the early 2000s were only proliferated out because they caught the attention of a big writer (namely Bendis in their case)
You'd be better off, assuming you have a solid story idea and he's definitely a "cape book" character, to shop him to a "cape-allowed" company that's not Marvel or DC (who will most likely take the idea, pay you the minimum possible and then hand it off to a junior writer, and that's ONLY if your character is so good and unique that they can't do it any other way) and instead go to those companies more independent child companies (Icon and Vertigo respectively) or to Image which has an even better track record of working with creators.
