Looking for badass comic female characters

I'm taking a hiatus from reading DC and Marvel comics. So, I'm looking for non-mainstream comics featuring female ninja characters or female characters who are extremely badass in close-combat/melee that are also the main characters of their comic series. If there are any recommendations from the Comicvine community, I would very much appreciate it!

I would recommend Velvet from Image. Its a spy thriller book written by Ed Brubaker and drawn by Steve Epting (same duo who had a legendary Captain America run)

Its only 3 issues in so its easy to catch up and has been absolutely fantastic. The main character is a spy (obviously) and pretty badass.

I would suggest looking into back-issues of Dawn, Tank-Girl, Razor, Lady Death, or Avengelyne (might have mis-spelled the last one) all were pretty good indie bad-ass super-woman.
