Why did image beat Aquaman?

Early issues often sell more copies, and The Walking Dead is really popular.

Ah,okay :)

It would explain a lot actually....

Just as I predicted.

@cameron83: Cause Image is awesome? Hey, as a long time fan of ol' fish lips, I'm just glad to see him selling in the top 50. A few years ago, who would have ever figured Aquaman would be outselling titles like Wonder Woman, Flash, and GLC.

Damn, really is a shame to see Green Lantern so low. I'm thinking people are afraid to give the new writer a chance. Then again, with all the damn Superman/Batman titles out.

I feel like Superman Batman is just DC revisiting the same shit they had before. Oh well, I ended up looking through it and it wasn't bad. I've just seen the same idea before. What I'm truly surprsied about is that Superman Unchained beat it out. To be fair, anything with Jim Lee and Scott Snyder with a great looking cover is going to excell, I suppose. Right after Man Of Steel too.

Green Lantern actually sold about 4,000 more copies than the previous issue.

I know what you mean. I kind of thought that the combination of two such popular characters would beat either solo title.

@v_scarlotte_rose: Thanks for posting. Im always curious to see whats selling good and whats not.

#14 Posted by V_Scarlotte_Rose (6237 posts) - - Show Bio

@rustyroy: Ah, O.K. Maybe a few extra variants would have helped it. :P

Its all about marketing, Unchained had better marketing than Batman/Superman and listing Batman/Superman in Superman group was a bad move.

@dark_guyver: No problem. :)

@rustyroy That's true I suppose.

What effect would being in the Superman group have though?

I don't know but I never check Superman group solicits and maybe if they put it on either JL or Batman group, more people would've been aware of the comic.

Wait, is that right? What the hell is wrong with this world. Green Lantern 20 was one of the best reads I've had in a long time. Damn. Now I just want to go on a long rant about how DC needs to stop pushing out Superman and Batman titles out of their ass because they're afraid to break their boundaries, but as of recent they are trying different. Ugh.

Anyway, fact of the matter is, people have seen it before though. It's not like Superman and Batman have never teamed up before or had their own comic title together, right?

Woah woah, a My Chemical Romance comic made the list at 46?? Fabulous!

And I'm glad Superman took the top spot.

#21 Posted by Lvenger (19129 posts) - - Show Bio

I read an article earlier in June saying that Batman 21 had outsold Unchained in the week they were sold. Glad to see Superman on the top spot. But it's a damn shame Wonder Woman wasn't higher. 21 was one of the best issues of the series yet.

#22 Edited by V_Scarlotte_Rose (6237 posts) - - Show Bio

@lvenger: Do you have a link to where to find the article?

@the_stegman: I was kind of surprised by that, but I suppose they do have a lot of fans.

#23 Edited by sinestro_GL (3122 posts) - - Show Bio

Things not looking too good for All-Star Western :(

Then again...Vibe is doing pretty poorly, as is Talon, Katana and Batwing.

#24 Posted by XImpossibruX (5171 posts) - - Show Bio

'Wolverine' is up there twice.

And man they have really destroyed Wonder Woman in this reboot.

#25 Edited by V_Scarlotte_Rose (6237 posts) - - Show Bio

@sinestro_gl: I don't know how protective they are of All-Star Western. Special treatment is given to Batwing, so it's possible that they could keep All-Star Western going even with low sales too.

@ximpossibrux: That's because there were two issues of it released in June.

#26 Edited by lilben42 (2527 posts) - - Show Bio

@lvenger: I know right! It confuses me. I think its because of marketing or something.

#27 Posted by Reignmaker (2235 posts) - - Show Bio

@sinestro_gl: I know! It's been a great book too. It's a $4 book, so I'm not too worried about it. That being said, if it gets dropped maybe we'll see Jonah return to a Vertigo title.

@sideburnguru: DC will push what sells. Like Marvel, they operate like a business. They canceled all sorts of good books because garbage like Batman: The Dark Knight and Red Lanterns continue to sell better. People care more about their favorite characters than the actual quality of the content. The numbers continue to reflect this.

it may have out sold Unchained that week but then word of mouth hit and Unchained sold more for the entire month

After looking at this list, one can see why Marvel insists on double shipping and spamming events every two months.

It also makes me depressed that Valiant's offerings are so low. What are people thinking?

How come?

Just that Green Lantern 20 had such low sales.

Probably better written than half the top ones on the list now, and it goes that low of sales. Wow.

It's kind of unfortunate that quality products don't necessarily get higher sales.

@sinestro_gl: Well Talon sold 2000 less copies than Animal Man and almost 6000 more copies than All Star Western. So you can probably scratch that off the list, maybe. However Vibe, Katana, and Batwing are dead last as far as new52 books go.

Batwing will be part of Zero Year Month, which I believe will begin in November, so that book seems to be safe until then. Like Scarlet said, Batwing has survived multiple cancellation. Gray & Piomiotti are writing both All Star & Batwing so maybe All Star Western will survive until next year.

@v_scarlotte_rose:Does DC have a usual period as to when they announce cancellation?

#35 Posted by Pokeysteve (8235 posts) - - Show Bio

Bummed to see Thunderbolts that low. That's a great line up. Hopefully DC gets Azz away from Wonder Woman. SOON!

@v_scarlotte_rose Thank you for posting this. I always read these when people post them.

I googled a few announcements of cancellations, and of the three I found, they were announced on bleedingcool on the 12th, 13th or 14th of their month. From this, I would guess that they announce cancellation around the middle of the month, a few days after the sales figures are announced.

Look at that... nightwing is god damn popular, and maintains high sales... yet the trades are given the paperback treatment only... WTF?!?! I would purchase nightwing trades if they were Hardcover. Easy.

Angela must be popular.

I actually thought Batman/Superman #1 would be the top seller.

#44 Posted by NightCrawler358 (199 posts) - - Show Bio

Wow, Unchained!! I actually overestimated how high Walking Dead would make it, the mainstream audience from the TV show must wait for the trades. Every spot up there is pretty deserving, though I hoped Brian Wood's X-Men would've landed in the top 10 at least :/

#45 Posted by TheFirstLantern (1505 posts) - - Show Bio

@v_scarlotte_rose: Hard to believe that I own six of those top ten. I did not expect GOTG though, maybe Angela is super famous. With the amount of hate SSM receives I would expect less and it is still in the top ten thats pretty good.

Top sales don't reflect quality. There are many more deserving comics out there.

That seems to happen sometimes. Like Age Of Ultron got a lot of negativity but still sold really well. Maybe these are just series that people feel that they should be buying, regardless of quality.

I thought it was because of the Angela appearance, but maybe it's because of the film too.

So we can pin GotG and AoU selling well because of Angela? I dunno? I'm genuinely interested in the time-quake and Thanos's interest in earth.
