joker misconception

I was thinking today how some viners believe that the joker is actually dumb and i think that's one of the biggest misconceptions in comics. I think the joker is the perfect polar opposite of batman. As most people agree that batman can do incredible things with enough preptime well so can the joker! In every story i read of him he plans everything out to the last detail! Even in movies think dark knight he makes harvey think all his actions are random but they're not he plans out every option to cause chaos and only chooses to make it seem random to further throw off the bat and scare civilians. I once heard that the joker has become the living embodiment of the chaos theory (it's a theory that states that everything has an order, no matter how random there is always a pattern). Thats at least how i view him how do you view the joker?

Joker is a genius. Plain and simple.

Joker is highly intelligent. I don't ever recall hearing someone say that he was dumb though...

He's amazing with prep and his unpredictability makes him great even without prep

I don't think people see him as dumb, but perhaps non-genius...then I could see where the debate comes in.

People think he's some crazy guy with a face full of makeup that just kills kids.

While that's somewhat true, there's a lot more to him you don't see if you don't read comics featuring him.

I've always been under the impression that the Joker appears insane because he is actually supersane. I can't remember where I read that or if it was actually in a comic or not but that description of him has always stuck with me.

I've always thought of Joker as Batman's intellectual superior. What messes him up is his instability and lack of true motives. He really isn't moving towards a cause he's just causing chaos for the sake of chaos.

joker is NOT stupid.

What is the point of this thread? Who thinks Joker is dumb? Not one guy so far.

I don't think anyone thinks that the Joker is stupid. They may think he's a bad character and thus call him 'dumb' or 'stupid,' but that's just a misuse of terminology.

To be an instrument of chaos and anarchy the joker needs to be not only a step ahead of the government/police but another in front of batman as well. Otherwise he's a one hit wonder. To have a career like he's had he would have to be a genius.

I don't think anyone thinks Joker is dumb, just not a genius like Luthor.
