@ganon15: Except Terminator, Aliens (just continued). Rambo (just continued) and just MAYBE Titanic, he has no movies that could be considered among top A rating. So this gives us two good originals (Terminator and Titanic) + two movies he just continued with (Aliens and Rambo).

Problem?

Are you just forsaking the fact that none of the Alien movies were worth anything until James Cameron came around? The entire world of Aliens, as it is, came about through Cameron's work.

@nickthedevil: And where would be that entire world of Aliens if not Riddley Scott?

I don't even understand what you are saying here though I give Cameron a lot of credit for the manner in which he continued the Alien concept but before Aliens had only been Alien and it is considered one of the top sci fi movies of all time.

@penderor:

Just about the same place it'd be without H.R. Giger, Dan O'Bannon and Ronald Shussett. Ridley Scott might have started the direction but the fact that James Cameron made it what is is, along with the fantastic original plot/movie and Universe, makes it as much his. Your ignorance to the inclusion of the gentlement listed, and your erronous suggestion that Ridley Scott was the inception for the Alien work, is pretty hypocritical. Ridley Scott was the director for the first movie, that's all. Just as much as James Cameron was.

Before you post videos like that, make sure you check your facts, bud.

Of course it was a great movie on it's own, but that's all it would have been. The universe of the Xenomorph was barely established in that first movie, and Aliens now is only where it is because of not just Ridely Scott's work on the idea, but James Cameron's work on it too, and he expanded on the first.

@nickthedevil: Where do you really think it is right now though? I am not one to knock Aliens just because it was a sequel but everything that's come after is due to both of those movies. Had Alien been a complete flop there would have never been another one. I don't think anything alien related since then has really been that great either.

Let me put it this way:

  • Bay's movies are the sort of stuff you put on late in the afternoon while doing something else to generate background noise or when you are lying hungover on the couch. It's decent to look at, it's entertaining abut it doesn't challenge you or stay with your after the end credits.
  • Cameron's movies are stuff you watch because you really want to follow whats going on and because you have to in order to be able to follow the plot.

Also the difference between them is that Cameron's Oscar collection looks something like this:

While Bay's looks something like this: (though he seems pretty popular with the kiddie awards and Raspberries):

No Caption Provided

You can't say that the two most successful movies in history aren't top A rating.

@ganon15: To me, Titanic is really just a glorified chick flick and only won the Oscar due to its huge box office which was mainly due to teenage girls going to see it 10+ times en masse. Not top shelf by any stretch. Just as Return of the Jedi or Attack of the Clones made huge box office but aren't great movies by any stretch either(imo).

Winning 11 oscars, getting 4 stars and even having famous movie critics like Roger Ebert stating, "It is flawlessly crafted, intelligently constructed, strongly acted, and spellbinding... Movies like this are not merely difficult to make at all, but almost impossible to make well," how is it just a glorified chick flick? It was a damn good movie, mate

@ganon15:I said except those movies I listed. Can you read english? In fact, Titanic is more or less just average romantic historical movie.

@nickthedevil: So you are telling me (example) that if Peter Jackson made the Fellowship and then let you to be director of Two Towers, you couldnt make a better movie? Making the originals is always harder than the sequel, as the sequel can add some things and clean errors of the old.

Also you didnt refuted my previous statement so you should get real facts.

No need to be a cunt, mate. You didn't mention Avatar and you only said "MAYBE Titanic". I was simply re-emphasizing why the latter movie should be considered A-rating.

@ganon15: To each his own. The critics ate it up but imo it was a glorified chick flick which is why as i stated earlier teenage girls went to see it in droves as never seen before and which imo greatly influenced the ratings its gotten much like how the people who went crazy over the lotr movies artificially inflated the ratings those movies got. I don't think rotk deserved an Oscar either.

To be honest I never got to finish the movie, but research tells me it was the highest grossing film of all time and that it was a critically acclaimed movie

@ganon15: It was also first gigantic 3D movie of all time, of course it will be highest grossing when people have to pay more for it. Also, I ever believe critics as I think that whole system is corrupted. Once someone starts to speak about the critics I am ignoring that fact.

Cameron is upper upper echelon filmmaker. You should only pair him with the Spielbergs, Coppolas, Burtons, Nolans, Howards, Ridley Scotts (list subject to change due to preferences).

Bay is like 4th or 5th tier.

I hate Titanic, but not because it made tons of money, the main reason people hate the movie.

I seriously think its a bad movie, but isnt bad because it made billions, like Avengers isnt good because it made billions.

Michael Bay delivers what the general audience looks for in entertainment: Popcorn type of action.

Yeah, James Cameron's better at his job and still delivers what the audience wanted, but you can't deny that Michael Bay is successful and deserves his success.
