Is there a back story on how Rocket met Groot?

So how did they meet each other and become partners?

Rocket was a squirrel in a forest who one step ahead of his race and evolved to become crazy intelligent. An alien dropped a liquid call pacurate in the forest which Rocket picked up and began analysing in a lab he found in the woods. He discovered it could create sentient beings from plants, so he emptied the liquid into a tree. Nothing happened. Just then a fox attacked Rocket and just as he was about to die the tree came to life and killed the fox. A partnership was born.

Is their scans of this in comics? That sounds so cool. Btw i thought rocket was a raccoon not a squirrel.

I just looked it up on groots wiki and I think he made that story up.

Groot is an alien known by the Kree as a Floral Colossus, though this species was once thought extinct. He was first seen when he landed on Earth and threatened humanity as one of the Marvel Monsters in the Marvel Age of Monsters. He was however soon defeated by a clever human which caused Groot to flee Earth once more. He was not heard from for many years after his initial encounter with humanity. - comicvine

That is groots origin and that does not match up with the story longman told.

There's a movie about it starring Billy crystal as Rocket and Meg Ryan as Groot.

It's done in flashbacks in Rocket's latest solo issue, they met in and broke out of prison. Before it was another thing, but this new issue retconned that.

Which was kind of weird since it's one of the few things about RR & Groot's past which had no need of retcon. Then again it was never really touched upon what Rocket & Groot did to get caught up in that Kree prison and before Annihilation(s), though it was insinuated in War of kings #3 that at least Rocket used to hang out with the Starjammers in the past. Who were and still are notorious band of Shi'ar based space pirates. So in all likely hood he was at least a part-time space corsair and smuggler.

There's also 2 prequel comics for MCU but they don't touch their past all that much except show their mercenary exploits and how they came to Xandar right before the movie.
