Is the Call of Duty franchise overrated?
Yes, yes, and yes.
Lol that was quick
Nah. It's overrated for a reason.
What would that reason be?
Generally the single player campaign is pretty mediocre at best; and the Multiplayer can be fun from time to time but it's not the best thing out there.
Extremely overrated. For years CoD has just been repackaging itself. Same graphics, textures, gameplay, coding, everything. But it's like Madden where everyone keeps buying it even though it's the SAME GAME. But it's more head-scratching than Madden because at least Madden gives you a new gimmick and new rosters every year to sucker you into buying it.
Not Overrated at all..one of the best FPS ever..and it has one of my very favorite character Simon "Ghost" Riley.

Not a character. he's a 2D cardboard cutout, just like eveyone in CoD. Of course, that's just my opinion >:)
Well people are starting to realize that most of the recent ones have been crap and that they are rehashing the same stuff every year, so no. They aren't bad games and there are some really good ones
The only reason I say no is because the hype started after Modern Warfare 2 and has since calmed down. I don't mind people playing it, and I don't hear as much about it being played as I used to.
true true. I remember when the first Black Ops came out EVERYONE was talking about for the first few months, but nowadays you don't really hear about the games as much outside of the internet.
@darthmummy: what are you talking about? He is a character from MW 2.Plus COD story line is getting weaker.
Yes and no.
You have the COD lovers who think it's the greatest thing ever.
Then you have the ultra-haters who do nothing but moan and complain about it.
Personally, I find it a decently fun excursion. It's nice being shot at for once where I can take 10 bullets and not die.

Lol. Also this.
@rogueshadow: Hey man, it's a legit concern when I head over there! Haha. And it is nice to feel superhuman by tanking bullets!

I'm looking forward to the development of full on HUDs with games, that'll be intense...
Well, for me it'll be intense, for you it'll probably be as intense as making a sandwich.
Out of curiosity, do you find your better at fps due to being an actual soldier? I've always wondered.
Extremely.
No. Just no. Call of Duty is has always been a great franchise and still is. It put Xbox 360 on map but makes top notch multiplayer games for all platforms.
I remember arguing with a guy named Biscuits on the TFW forum who thinks Halo is better than Call of Duty and thinks Gundam is better than Transformers He always like to disagree with the other board members on anything and claim he's never lost an argument. so obviously a guy who thinks he's smarter than most people cause he can't like the same things as them. He says things they won't agree with like how he thinks instant spawning makes the game less fun or how custom classes make shooters unbalanced. The later I find ridiculous because power weapons are extremely unbalanced in Halo compared to anything else. And probably thinks CoD's gameplay is unbalanced cause of calculations no one cares about.

Agree to disagree

Time to play the devil's advocate. IMO unbalance and CoD are almost synonymous with each other. I've played pretty much every CoD multiplayer since CoD3 and ALL of them have unbalances, some more than others (such as MW2). Sometimes the unbalanced issues are even game-breaking such as with Black Ops 2 and its f*cked up spawn system.
It's the same thing over and over.
that too
I personally feel it's overrated, but there's no arguing on its impact in the fps genre. CoD 4 and MW2 were some of the greatest fps games I've ever played. But now it feels to bloated, with new games coming out every year which hardly change anything.
Now the 1,2,3 MW, WAW, MW2, BO1, and BO2 aren't overrated IMO, those actually improved on the gameplay/or at least had a good story
The rest are basically trash (ESPECIALLY ghosts )
I wish they would bring back a WW2 COD game. Preferably one where I can play a campaign for each major nation in the war.
It was a game I was really looking forward to playing when I first got my PS3 but my god I was so disappointed by it.
It started out as a promising franchise and it fairly built that franchise with reflective warfare games that told a developed story with a unique flow of individual characters however its biggest downfall was direction. Although it started great it progressed badly and consistently distanced itself from its own roots and beginning. Now with that said, I do think its in the middle of overrated and overexposed I`m not the biggest fan but I do see its potential and I wonder if the creators see the same thing that`s where it becomes overrated to me its being misused even in its own market a yearly formula for this type of series discredits and brings forth misconceptions that pollute the past reputation of what it once and originally represented.
I truly think people don't know what overrated means. It's not another word for bad guys. This thread is proof enough that the CoD franchise isn't overrated. Everyone has discuss only there disdain for the series here without a slither of praise. This is something that is prevalent all over. Rarely, have I seen anyone praise or complement CoD, and the rare times It happens the poster is teared to shreds. So no it's not overrated it and its fanbase are thoroughly hated an aptly rated.
Overrated to a certain degree. I don't hate it though. It's a good gaming experience specially to the beginners.
