Is Spider-Man the best street-leveler in comics?

Probably.

I'm gonna say 'no' ... but only because... (and this will get the angry mob to kill me) ... but only because I consider Batman a "Street-Leveler". ;)

Peter is only a street leveler because of his morals and how much he restricts himself. But based on that alone I'd say yes.

Spiderman would destroy Batman and any other street leveler in a random encounter so yes.Its only when you start adding PIS/CIS that other street levelers are on his level.

I'd say him having basically no penetration resistance also makes him street level.

Spider Man's dodging ability is overrated. People act like he's impossible to tag, when that isn't true. Also his web slinging is only useful in cities.

Also these days, he's a notch above most street levelers. If he started operating to his full potential maybe twenty years ago, he wouldn't even have that label on him.

Lifting 10 tons effortlessly makes you 1000% more powerful than the average street-level hero like Cap and Batman who struggle to lift 1 ton.

@darthaznable: Very true, but the Flash has no piercing or slashing resistance. He can be shot, or stabbed, and he is considered high-tier. However, like Peter, he has powers and abilities that compensate for and work around that vulnerability.

Then he's not street level, how can you be on same level yet be so far above everyone in the same category? that makes no sense.

Spiderman is on the level of characters such as Ragman, Blue Devil, original Static, New 52 Mr Terrific, low mid tier and he wouldn't stomp anyone of them and none of them would stomp Spiderman.

Personally if you class street level as people who run around a city saving people then both Superman & Flash are better with their incredible powersets. if you mean street level where powers are capped so batman, Daredevil & TMNT are included then Spider-Man really should be in the tier above that.

What does his morals have to do with him not being a street leveler? Otherwise I agree, Spidey holds his full potential back to stay close to home as a human concept, and at his most flawed has degraded his skillset and got sloppier or at the same level because he's a regressing manchild who is afraid of change and growing a spine.

@jimishim12: 'Street level', 'mid tier', 'powerhouse', 'herald', etc are just fan made terms to define ones level of power. Peter's powers and physicals are well above that of a street leveler, before you factor in his gear. He fights at a street level because he holds himself back so much. It's why your average criminals heads don't explode when he hits them.

Yeah. Spidey when holding back is a low mid tier type of guy. When not holding back, he is a high mid-tier guy, With his gear and superior intellect, he is a powerhouse. We have seen that side of him sometimes, but Marvel's continuous efforts to backstab him in order to make Iron Man more popular are what keep holding him back. I'd like to see a "Spider-Man Kills The Marvel Universe" type storyline (in canon, without the killing. More like Spider-Man goes rogue). It would be awesome to see how destructive a fully motivated Spidey could be. I'd wager it would take some one on Thor's level to stop him.

I didn't vote because even though he fights street level criminals regularly, as far as power-level goes Spider-man is far above street level, he's more high mid-tier easily able to match people on the level of Namor, the Thing, the Hulk, Iron-man etc. in overall power. Other "street level" characters such as Black Panther, Daredevil, Punisher. Batman, Captain America, etc simply aren't physically in the same class. Peter often goes toe to toe with people in the 80+ton strength class such as Rhino and Titania etc.

I agree he's a tier above street level even if he's at the lower end of that tier.

I like Spiderman regardless but I don't think he's street level even though he spends a lot of his heroic deeds within the streets.

If Spiderman is street level then Midnighter is street level, and we all know what that fight would go.
