Poll Is "Spider-man 2" in the Top 5 of Superhero movies? (160 votes)

Yes 58%
No 42%

The train scene, the opening credits, the new goblin tease, Alfred Molina , the hospital horror-esque scene, Raindrops keep falling sequence , May and peter scenes , the reveal, the forgiving , etc etc

I think it is a excellent superhero film, and that it has been slowly forgotten with the arrive of the Iron Mans, the Nolan trilogy, the reboot , the Avengers etc

Yeah, it don´t have big explosions and shit , and many people don´t like Tobey and Kirsten but damn, just to rewatch some of the scenes and speeches, It make me think it´s one of the best films, yet kind of forgotten.

Opinions?

Tobey Maguire, general cheese, and the dumb confession to Aunt May scene disqualify it from top 5.

Top 10 I think is fair enough, there are a lot of good points to the movie.

No. Raimi recycled the plot for all 3 movies. It was incredibly old.

Macguire, Dunst and Franco are all terrible in their respective roles too.

I kinda agree with you on Dunst but Franco and Maguire were great certainly much better than emo Garfield and Dane DeHaan.

How specifically were Garfield and DeHaan emo?

@black_wreath: I'm only calling Garfield emo and that's because he sulks and his character is a boring cipher.

I loved this movie when I was a kid. Molina and Simmons were brilliant. Great action. But you have to admit, it hasn't really aged well.

easily, spiderman 1 and 2 were some of the best cbms ever and probably wouldn't see as many movies without the success of spidey.

I think that it was one of the best superhero movies...The only thing that was lacking with Maguire Spidey is that he doesn't make too many funny quips like Garfield Spidey did 8 years later. Alfred Molina as Doc Ock was the show-stealer for me.

Personally I feel the other way round. Dunst I think was given horrible scenes and dialogue from the start, I don't think anyone could've come out of those movies looking good in that MJ role. I mean all she was given was scenes of whining and being fickle, swapping between boyfriends etc etc, getting kidnapped and being a damsel in distress, really unnatural romance dialogue etc etc.

Maguire just gurns and pulls faces throughout the whole movie, its like watching a Spitting Image Puppet at times.

Franco hams everything up to hell with raised eyebrows and sinister smirks, and is very watchable but really can't be taken seriously.

It's my personal second favourite comic book movie after Superman, it even beats The Dark Knight as a comic book movie.

I don't think so, but it's the only Marvel movie to win an Oscar (not that Oscars for special effects really count for much).

No. This movie has a few AMAZINGLY well-done scenes but it is hardly good enough for top 5. Some of the other scenes were terrible. Doc Ock's death was horribad.

Still the best Spider-Man movie.

I agree. For me it goes:

1. Spiderman 2

2. Spiderman

3. Amazing Spiderman

And that's where it ends because there were no other Spiderman films :)

I think it's earned it's right as Top 5 or even best super hero movie ever made around the time of it's release when we mostly had comic book films like the Shumacher Batman films, Steel, Daredevil, Hulk, Catwoman and Fantastic Four to compare with.

However after Batman Begins, the standards for comic book films have overall risen leading Spider-Man 2 to show off some of it's age and cheese. Still, I feel the film isn't completely without merit. And I like how the film showed Peter struggling to balance his main life with the superhero antics in a relatable manner.

But I think we can all agree this was the most unintentionally laughable part of the whole movie lmao.

I think so but it has some serious competition nowadays, which it didn't have during it's release.

The Rami movies as a whole were bad. This was the only good one, and it was great...but brought down by McGuire, Dunst, etc. And I like this movie, don't get me wrong. Just not for it's cast or acting. I prefer the ASM cast personally.

It has the potential, but I think it's been forced out of top 5 these days. Still in the top 10 perhaps, but not top 5.

I dunno about top 5, but I'd be comfortable with top 10. It was a great Spiderman movie.

There's a reason they re-made the exact same movie for Amazing Spiderman, after all.

I have it at 6 ..so for me no. But I think it has aged well. I re-watched it last month and still loved it. I don't know why folks think Dunst was bad...she's actually better than Stone IMHO (who I think is mediocre) I think it's because that film was really going after the Lee-Ditko version of Spider-man and in those days MJ was a whiny little brat. It was a big part of why Parker didn't like her much at first .

I think the end battle is kind of weak, they should´ve used another motivartion for Otto, instead of getting MJ again,

also the last fight is the shortest and again the "weakest"

Spider-Man 2 has the best RT tomatometer score of any superhero comic book movie ever, just fractions of a percentage higher than the Dark Knight.
