Is Marvel Comics Joyless?

Marvel characters seem depressing and joyless. This makes me feel depressed and joyless when reading.

Superman fans are already considered sub human. Hating on Marvel wont help our case

I'd actually say DC is more serious than Marvel.

Really? I'd say DC Comics is more joyless, dark and serious with Batman, Darkseid and all.

Marvel has Deadpool, Spider-man, Wolverine (not always serious), etc... Maybe it's you buddy, cheer up~!

Also,this is odd...usually people say this for DC comics. Although it can be argued for both who is more dark,it's opinion.

Also,you give me the impression that you don't read that much DC or Marvel.

1. DC has Vertigo,which is incredibly dark.(Marvel has MAX,too)

2. While many DC titles aren't as dark,the exact same thing can be said for some Marvel titles. Some titles are dark,some aren't. Deal with it.

3. How do they make you feel depressed? They're not real! I don't....I don't understand.

And again,whoever you consider "darker" than the other is just your opinion and that's it. Weightless.

And to generalize that they in particular are joyless and depressing is SO one-sided and ignorant....it makes me think that the only exposure you had to Marvel was reading one review off of an unpopular website

@cameron83: I completely agree with all your points, except for that comic books can't be depressing. It's why I've never been able to finish Watchmen.

Do you many Marvel comics? Tons of people would say that Marvel is the lighter one. Neither are joyless and I like DC better. but if anything, DC would be the joyless/depressing one. Not Marvel

Spidey , Johnny storm , hulk (at times) , deadpool there are many characters that aren't deppressing but may I ask whose books you are reading ?

Spidey's life has been absolute hell since One More Day. Hulk's life has been absolute hell since Planet Hulk. Johnny was dead for a long time recently. Ok, theres Deadpool...

For Christ's sakes,even before the new 52 (which has some creepy stories),they were still pretty dark. Even Wonder Woman was.

Ah, that makes some sense. A+X seems like the place for a more fun carefree sort of story, based on some of the issues I have.

Your right. I feel its depressing. Like mutants battling against humans. Most of the time the humans are the evil party and the mutants are right and attack the regular humans. Then the whole idea behind mutants is that they want to replace regular people like us on the earth. And the marvel universe is in fested with mutants. And who do we have to protect us against murderous mutants? More mutants. We don't have anybody protecting us like in the dc universe like superman. If mutants existed in my reality I would try to destroy them.
