I'm not a big Star Wars fan, but I decided to check out it's trailer, and what I notice is that the movie - its props, costumes, aliens, setting, etc - look kind of weird and goofy in our modern day 2015. The CGI itself looks good, but for some reason its kind of offsetting, like the film was made on a 10 million dollar budget. What dou you guys think?
Is it me or does Star Wars seem out of place in 2015?
just you as it will be the highest grossing movie of all time
I highly doubt ANY movie, especially Star Wars, will be beating out Avatar's 2.77 billion any time soon. No other film has even crossed 2 billion. Shoot, SW won't even be the highest grossing this year (AoU will).
Its because their being creative and using practical effects for a change. Unlike every movie today where everythings CGI.
The special effects look amazing. Far ahead of anything else coming out today.
Though they do look amazing and top of the line, Transformers, GotG, Avengers, and other films look just as good if not better.
@petey_is_spidey: alright save that post, print it out, cherish it then come back to me when it comes out... you will see
@petey_is_spidey: I bet you hate Superman, too.
lol, 10 million won`t even get you a comedy movie nowadays.
Star Wars has it`s own distinct visual style and has been hugely influential (not even talking about pop culture). Star Wars was the movie that popularized the ``used universe`` look. That is to say that Star Wars made sci-fi look dirty and rusted while most sci-fi was all polished and shiny prior to them.

Huh, that's a little random but okay...

Lol, maybe I was overexageratting with only 10 million. But you're right, they do have a Unique look to them. Hey, maybe this movie will get me into the franchise, like the newer Star Trek films have.
Never understood what was so good about Avatar.
I don't know either. I mean it nearly made 3 billion, IN ONE FILM!! That's crazy.
There were 0 aliens in the trailer.
Chewbacca was in it.
@petey_is_spidey: You sound like a classic "if a character isn't human he isn't relatable" kind of guy.
@superguy1591: When did I ever say something close to that, or even suggest that I'm like that? But if that's the impression you get from me then okay...

I like how you can see the future. Also why can't they beat 2.77 billion? Says who?
It is just you

Not saying its impossible, but even the highly anticipated, multi-hero Avengers film could only get to 1.5 billion, and thats with 3d sales. Its gonna be a tough, tough challenge.
@petey_is_spidey: Well even 1 billion is pretty hard to beat, plus challenges are meant to be met and completed so....we shall see what is what.
@petey_is_spidey: Inflation would probably guarantee billions for any movie these days. Adjusted for inflation, nothing has beaten Gone With The Wind.
@mandarinestro: Just looked that up. Daaaaaang 3.4 billion for a movie from 1939! Wow! Man even without that it made $390 mil on only a 3.8 mil budget? That's impressive, especially considering the era.

But we have to remember that movie was released in a time where competition was no where as deep as it is now. A movie was lucky to get above 10 million back then. You would usually get one blockbuster film a year, while in today's theaters you can find 3 films grossing $750+ at once. The film industry wasn't as big back then, so if you had a great movie like "Gone With the Wind" and had a good marketing scheme, you were ensured success. I doubt it would have that same success if it was released today. It's like how the Steelers (6) have the most SB wins, but the Packers have the most Championships (13). However, most of those titles were in a time when there were only like 8 teams, and 5 games a season. Same concept. That's why its tricky comparing two movies financial success from two vastly different time periods.

That
@petey_is_spidey: So what's insanity like? Seems like it'd be tough to function on a day-to-day basis. How do you cope?
Star Wars was an still is the bar when it comes to Sci-Fi movies. Not to mention how popular it still is after all these years. That trailer garnered more excitement from me more than both AoU and BvS combined. That's coming from a huge comic fan. Maybe it won't beat Avatar for highest gross of all time but you never know maybe it has a chance only time will tell.
Yes, I give it credit for looking like the original movies, but I do agree some of the effects do look strange these days and not necessarily in a good way.
A lot of the costumes look weird too. Admittedly the original stormtroopers and Darth Vader are actually even stranger looking, we just got used to them. Though as bad as the movies were, the clone armors didn't give off that vibe.
