Ironman lawsuit!

Two comic book artists the Lai brothers are suing Marvel for ''copying'' their designs for Ironman in the Ironman movies.

Their goal is to claim all of Marvel's revenue of the Iron Man movies, 10% is apparently 100 million.

Wow, after reading the article I cannot help but think that bringing this lawsuit is like garnering the attention of the Eye of Sauron. They made a tech suit based Super Hero in 2001, how many of those exist in comicdom? How hard is it going to be for Marvel to show something that proves they have been using that concept for 2+ decades, and then counter sue?

It's just such a basic concept at that point that trying to sue someone for it is ridicules let alone 14 years later with a character that has been using tech based equipment like 40 years prior. Not to mention I can easily point to a cartoon made in 1994-1996 that clearly shows that it's not spandex just imagine listing all the evidence for Iron Man if this actually got any sort of momentum (which is won't).

Exactly, the only thing remotely similar is the pose.

@heatblaze123: The article I read said they were going after the way his armor looks and the poster. They specifically call out that he looks like he wears spandex.

I'm not a huge fan of megacorporations either, but this lawsuit looks like a joke. I really doubt you can sue someone because their character has a 'highly detailed mechanical suit'. If so, Seigal and Shuster's family should sue everyone that created a character that wears colourful skin-tight suits or wears a cape.

Well any press is good press. Guess it'll make their comic noticed.

The suit was never spandex, the classical suit was made from lightweight malleable metal with tons of transistors. Heck the first armor was a bulky armor completely from an Iron shell and many transistors.

Ohhh. And this is clearly spandex:

They're the legal equivalent of trolls. They probably think they're geniuses who are going to trick Disney into settling out of court for a few million just to make them shut up.

To be fair, this being America, it would actually not be the stupidest outcome to ever come out of our legal system. Still, it is pretty much guaranteed that these guys will be completely buried by Disney's legal team if they don't wise up quick.

I'm all for protecting what one creates, but this idea that someone stole another's idea is getting way out of hand. Nowadays it's hard to be original. Everything is now a variation on a theme. I blame the ambulance chasing lawyers on this.
