Anyone else love some Independent comics? I haven't seen too much talk about them so I thought I'd start some. I'm mostly a Image guy myself but i do dabble in a lil' IDW and Darkhorse as well. Lets see, I'll start with just listing my top five independent comics.

1. TMNT

2. Skull-Kickers

3. Chew

4. Walking Dead

5. Invincible

wow there is so many more i wanna list. I'll just leave it at that for now. Lets the Independent love begin! (:

I read all independent, and I mean really independent.

Very few webcomics have actual company backing, let alone the bit two.

If we're trying to be the most indie, I think reading something self-published is more indie then reading something unpublished :P

You would have me beaten good sir, if it weren't for the fact that several webcomics are self published. :P

@aztek_the_lost: No I mean, a comic writtern, drawn, lettered, and edited by the creator, with pre-ordered copies printed out, sold out, and shipped out.

Such is the case with Problem Sleuth, Homestuck, Sam and Fuzzy, Beartato, etc.

Do you generally regard anything that isn't published by Marvel or DC as "independent"?

That question isn't directed at one person, it's for anyone to answer.

Alpha Girl is alright for a first issue, Has a funny take on the zombie/end of the word thing.

I haven't read Thief of Theves yet but it has Robert Kirkmans name on it so its prob good.

I would have to agree with you aztek. True independent comics are creator owned but in the industry anything non Marvel or DC has become known as independent. Image is really the only true big independent company as it has no company owned titles or licensed material. As for the sake of this thread, we'll just say anything thats not Marvel or DC is okay.

miine are probably

1. The Walking Dead

2. Locke and Key

3. Izombie

4. Fables

5. Hack/Slash

I like The Walking Dead, Fables, Hack/Slash, 30 Days of Night, Echoes, Casanova (which was indie, but was recently licensed by Marvel), Greek Street, Preacher, Wormwood: Gentleman Corpse, Sandman, Baker Street, Hatter M: The Looking Glass War, Human Target (was indie, currently licensed by DC, I think?), Severed, Singularity 7, Y: The Last Man, if we're saying anything not directly Marvel or DC is independent. I've never really been clear on that, so it's interesting to see the discussions in here about it.

Been meaning to check out a lot of other ones mentioned in this topic - American Vampire, iZombie, Locke & Key, 100 Bullets, Chew, and The Darkness.

You mention reading a lot I've never heard of! I'll be checking those out now, thanks :)

Lots in here I hadn't heard of before actually. I'm going to check them out and see if I need to put them on my chance list.

So last week a couple new number ones from Image. The Manhattan Projects #1 and Hell Yeah #1 come out. Hell Yeah was decent, you superhero guys would like it. Manhattan Projects, was awesome! Its my favorite new series so far this year, thats for sure. Anyone else pick these up? what do you think?

Also anyone reading Lord of the Jungle by Dynamite? Its pretty dang good for a Tarzan book.

So BKV's big Image book came out, Saga . This book was highly hyped and I don't think it lived up to it. While it was written very well, it was a bit too lovey dovey and predictable for my taste. I also don't dig Fiona Staples art all that much. That all said, I will be picking up a couple more issues at least to see what happens. Any of you guys pick this up? what do you think?
