1. No one recognizes rhetoric intended to undermine or discredit a character? You take a character you don't like, a few statements made by a few users as opinions, then repeat them in a context that is more "factual" insistent and forceful to get other users to deny and reject the statements, overreact and eventually (hopefully for some) ridicule and mock the character and discredit arguments so they don't have to?

2. Levels to do with fictional characters power levels are largely fan made. "Universal power level", "multiverse power level", "planet buster", "star buster", "galaxy buster" its all objectively useless unless you have some solid, factual grounded basis in what constitutes such things, which also requires some sort of uniform standard in the first place for such concepts as in reality, well such things are hard to pin down and are usually quite variable. Star and planet sizes for example, like comparing a cat to an elephant, before we even start to consider the idea of destruction of scales whose states are quite raw and lacking in uniformity anyway. You don't really destroy anything you convert it. Even when such terms appear in the actual fiction, its more for dramatic story effect than anything that should be taken so literally as to be compared with other stories. Which is why a lot of writers who are the ones making the statements, actions, feats of characters cringe when pressed too hard for details by fans.

3. Characters are fictional. For every story we have of Dr Strange being scared and worried about Sentry we have Strange intimidated by Anti-Man, or Vulcan being classified as being more powerful than Omega level. Fiction, fiction, fiction. Writers often use other characters to sell the idea of another character. Its basically like WWE, sometimes for upcoming stories a character needs to be pushed and so needs help to be put over so they look strong. Its not actually real though, in WWE or comics, remember Wonder Man is as strong as Sentry, so is he multiversal too now? Well, he isn't really in the sense they aren't real, and was a writer trying to help Wonder Man get over a bit more and we have a rare example of Sentry being the character to help get him over. This is something I actually like more about wrestling fans than comic fans, respect and admiration is given for wrestlers that help put over new talent. A lot of comic fans have no idea of comics history, creative writing, context within comics, or understanding that when Namor first fought Thor that character "helped" put Thor over (was more the writer than actual character) and then later Thor would help establish Wonder Man (and just like in wrestling some characters have longer staying power than others, hence why someone like Wonder Man would fade a bit into the background) the only difference is purely fictional characters can last far longer than wrestling characters.

4. Remember how Sentry use to be this great character because he touched on mental health issues and struggles, was filled with insecurities, parts of his story were metaphorical, allegorical, meta, was a deconstruction of bygone comic ages and Übermensch? Well I think some other stories/characters did some of those things a bit better (Miracleman for example) but Sentry had so much potential. Except 95 percent of the time people talk about him at CV they are talking about power levels, jeez. Why is CV so obsessed with power levels? Just go to fan fiction, you can create stories where Wonder Woman cuts everyones head off and Sentry's sneezes are mega-omniversial and capable of killing everyone ever and Thor shoots Hammers out his nipples that are FTL and destroys all the planets ever, forever ever, forever ever! Sorry Mrs Jackson, Hammer Nipples are reeaaaalll.

Very interesting argument going around.

That reminds me, do we have a Sentry expert? Someone who knows everything about Sentry and is normally seen credible on vine?

Aside from those already here, @sophia89: would be your best bet. Or @killemall: Now that he's back.

Thanks for the tag.

Did Bob ever bust a universe? No.

However he have feats to say he is Universal:

  1. Having more energy than a cosmic cube.(CC are Universalmultiversal).
  2. Defeating Owen AKA Molecule Man.(Post retcon MM was still Universalmultiversal).
  3. Warping reality on a cosmic scale.(The watcher was effected by it).
  4. Having SS DR Strange scared and calling him a Universal threat.

And the fact that the 3 writers who wrote him the most said he is one of the most powerful beings in MU.

1) True.

2) True.

3) True. And Sentry helped establish Blue Marvel.

4) True. Miracleman being better is a matter of opinion, I like both equally. I guess that us, readers, wants some consistency in the writing of our favorite characters.

And Tony Stark, as the leader of the Super Hero Task Force, made a special report for the president of the USA about dangerous people during the Civil War :

1) "Civil War Files" = In-depth dossiers analyzing the potential threat posed by the nation most proeminent superhumans.

2) Letter from Tony Stark to the President.

3) The Sentry profile in the "Civil War Files".

1) Sentry could trigger a psionic outburst like in HOM. HOM Wanda is a Multiversal Reality Warper.

2) Iron Man state that if Sentry can alter worldwide people memories on a whim and if he become a threat there is no mean to stop him.

@captain_batman_ftw: And that was only unstable Sentry, Stable Sentry is infinite times stronger, so he is super omnipotent. He also beat PR MM (Retcons, pfft) who was Omnipotent so Stable has to be super omnipotent

@captain_batman_ftw: Yep, he survived an omniversal busting punch, Blue Marvel killed LT before the Ivory Kings stole his credit, and he wrecked them before busting the omniverse, but Sentry survives

Yeah the issue is too complicated to just chuck in as right and wrong.

Is Sentry normally potrayed as being a multiversal powerhouse? Not really.

Are there time when he seem to be so? Yes

Are there significantly larger number of times when Sentry is seen vastly inferior to that? Yes

Are there instance where there is absolutely no mention of Sentry's mentality and he has struggled against opponents far weaker than multiversal? Yes: Anti-Man, The CAP Robot, Sentient Baxter Building, and partly against Blue Marvel.

The consistent majority of his story does not depict him anywhere close to multiversal in terms of power.
