Poll: If you could work for a comic book publisher, which publisher would it be? (53 votes)

Marvel Entertainment 17%
DC Comics 42%
Dark Horse Comics 9%
Image Comics 25%
IDW Productions 2%
Fantagraphics Books 4%
Shonen Jump 2%
Top Cow Productions 0%

If you were a really good artist and writer and you could work for any comic book publisher, which publisher would it be?

My top 3:

1. Dark Horse Comics or Shonen Jump, depending on if I'm writing a comic book or manga. (With Dark Horse you have a lot of freedom.)

2. Marvel Entertainment. (You get to work with Marvel's iconic characters.)

3. Image or DC comics.

Image, I like the creative freedom.

Me too bro'. Independant comic publishers generally tend to have a lot of creative freedom.

Marvel or DC. Working for either would be the ultimate dream come true.

All of them. If I had to pick one right now, Valiant. I'm hoping their success continues, and being apart of the foundation of a big comic company would be awesome.

DC! It would be a dream come true! I wouldn't care if all I got to write was a Condiment King mini-series, it would still be DC.

DC. They have the Green Lantern. While not by any stretch my favorite hero, there are some sci-fi stories I have in my head that would perfectly fit a Green Lantern if it were to take place in the DCU (except for Guy, sorry Guy. Yer my second favorite Lantern too lol.).

But Image because they let you write your story, and I wouldn't need to worry about my story being cut short because of some dramatic, continuity-spanning event.

Valiant. Thanks for not putting a choice for that :p

i'd work for DC, they have been doing great since the new 52 launched.

I choose DC!

Wait why does Marvel have 0%?

#13 Posted by batmannflash (6224 posts) - - Show Bio

Dude if they make you write a Condiment King miniseries, you're probably an amazing writer lol

#14 Posted by RulerOfThisUniverse (6359 posts) - - Show Bio

@batmannflash: Or I won some kind of contest in which they promised they'd let the winner write a book and consider anything else too important for me lol.

Image, I like the creative freedom.

this should be the only answer . indie companies treat their talent better than the big two

Marvel.

I would love to work for dc♥♥♥♥ I think I would get fired or quit if I had to wor k for marvel. I can't relate to those characters....

#18 Posted by Extremis (3361 posts) - - Show Bio

@soa: tough calling Image indie considering they're third in market share behind only DC and Marvel...

Indie should be those with less than 4% of the market share

I would chose Image since I would have more freedom in writing the stories I want.

#20 Posted by kamrenamir (212 posts) - - Show Bio

I like writing the darker stuff but Idk it would be fun to write anything for a company.

#21 Posted by Cap10nate (2451 posts) - - Show Bio

Valiant so I could be part of the team building a universe from scratch.

... Not an available answer so I picked Marvel since it is my favorite universe.

I would love working for DC so I could try to change all the ridiculous New 52 costumes back to normal.

#23 Posted by ULTRAstarkiller (6249 posts) - - Show Bio

Man I wish I could work for DC. I have a feeling they'd restrict me alot.

#24 Posted by dbatdog (548 posts) - - Show Bio

Image. So I won't have any restriction.

#25 Edited by Guardiandevil83 (5785 posts) - - Show Bio

Marvel or Image.

Marvel because they are the first publisher I've ever read, and I love their characters.

Image is the second because I was a big fan of most of their books. Vanguard, Supreme, Union and others. Also most of Liefield's characters had no backstory. So I can basically do what Valiant is doing. I could make Youngblood a force to be reckoned with.

#26 Posted by nintendork666 (285 posts) - - Show Bio

Dark Horse, for the same reason many of you are selecting Image. Creative freedom is important.

Maybe Marvel, but only if they'd let me create a new on-going Moon Knight run.

#27 Edited by lykopis (10746 posts) - - Show Bio

Marvel first because I am a Marvel fan first and foremost and then Dark Horse and Image.

I would say DC but only with Vertigo.

  1. DC
  2. Image
  3. Marvel

No Valiant?

#30 Posted by Enzeru--defunct (2923 posts) - - Show Bio

Creator owned stuff, to keep the rights for my characters and stories.

Marvel, DC, Valiant. And maybe a creator-owned book on Image.

#33 Posted by Extremis (3361 posts) - - Show Bio

If I were to rank it:

1. Valiant

2. Image

3. Marvel

4. Vertigo (if allowed to say this)

5. Dark Horse

6. DC (meh)

No Dynamite. Ive seen their website and the female characters are WAY over sexualized. Their "art" seems akin to softcore porn mostly. Everytime I give them a look this is the case. No thanks, I'd rather not be a part of that.

And I don't read or know much about the others.

It would be DC for me. Love their characters and would love to write stuff featuring them.

This. I have heard literally no hate for any of the companies like Image.

Working with the big two every writing decision you make will be blasted on here.

  1. DC : Batman, Flash, JL, GL, Vertigo etc.
  2. Marvel : X-Men, Spider-Man, F4 etc.
  3. Dark Horse : Hellboy.
#39 Posted by CheeseSticks (2533 posts) - - Show Bio

People choosing DC wouldn't love working there, since the editor refuse new idea.

Fantagraphics or Dynamite.

#41 Edited by Nelomaxwell (10590 posts) - - Show Bio

Marvel has no people of color working in editorial at the moment and DC has only one. So I probably wouldn't get hired by either. I'm gonna say Image cause they seem fair and care about creators.

#42 Posted by Omega Ray Jay (7906 posts) - - Show Bio

I'm gonna say Dark Horse because I would love to work on Star Wars comics

#43 Posted by Blood_Red_Rage (508 posts) - - Show Bio

DC namely under Vertigo.

#44 Edited by Crom-Cruach (8899 posts) - - Show Bio

None of these I would work for Dargaud or Soleil

So if an independent company does well it's not independent anymore?
What.
