So, recently had to read one of those books in English class. But this time around finally in English 12 a book they gave me called Brave New World a story about how the world would be seen if everybody was the same and everyone acted the same.

We then get into a discussion about Utopias and Dystopias, saying that there is no way the world can ever be perfect without flaws.

As we carry on with the talk, I started to think about Light Yagami from Death Note as his dream was to become the God of a New World. And ridden of criminals forever.

So as this question has said. If Light wasn't killed in the end and kill everybody in time before his death. Would his world be a Utopia or a Dystopia?

Somebody would eventually kill him and either burn the book or become the new ruler, his plan was idiotic and only a narcissist could ever believe it could work indefinitely; that was the point.

It would certainly be a dystopia, I imagine Light would implant some kind of panoptical structure akin to 1984. No utopia will ever exist, in any form, it is simply against human nature.

The world's wars and crime went way down when Light was in charge. The problem was Light was human and would have died, so he would need a good apprentice at some point. Otherwise a power vacuum would open up and groups like ISIS would run free.

The problem is comics, anime/manga always operate in extremes. But it would be a Dystopia.

A normal person might adopt a similar view of the world, personally can get rid of murders, rapist ect... but keep prisons for those who steal, embezzle money. ect... No need for the massive death toll light wanted to inflict.

If Johan Liebert didn't eventually kill him and take the Death Note for himself, it would be a dystopia, as Light was way too immature in his ideals and views of the world to be it's new "God".

It seems he went a bit mad towards the end of the series, I reckon the world Light would have created would just have everyone as a recluse, too scared to go outside in case they do anything not to Light's liking.

It seemed to me that Kira was becoming addicted to the Death Note, and with no one committing crimes anymore out of fear of Kira, I think Light would begin to kill for more insignificant things and tiny things like lying out of fear they might make his perfect world less "perfect."

I deem it a Dystopia.

well it would be a good short term utopia until people see that their freedom is taken away and descend into a despotic world like always.

I dunno. He did stop all wars and worldwide crime by 70%.

As long as you don't try to catch him, you're in the clear. Might be something of a utopia.

Not if Light has anything to say about it. The chaotic ones will be punished swiftly.

He actually confirmed he was going to start killing lazy people once all the criminals were gone.
