I want to start reading Batman comics. Where should I start?

I've been searching this up. And this is what I've got. And the number is the order I am purchasing them in.

1. Year One

2. The Long Halloween

3. Gotham by Gaslight

4. The Dark Knight Returns (series)

5. The Killing Joke

6. Arkham Asylum

7. HUSH

New 52 Batman is the best comic going on right now, read it!

I'd read Year One, The Killing Joke, and Hush *In that order*.

A lot of people don't like it but if you end up reading (and liking) the dark knight returns by miller I really suggest the dark knight strikes again. Same thing with the long Halloween if you like it get the follow up Dark Victory. Also I hear Knightfall is good. but what you listed has you in pretty awesome stead. get readin!

I'd say that you should read Year One first because it delves into what created Batman and who he is, The Killing Joke second because it lets us know about Joker, and Hush because it really lets you get to know the whole of Batman's rogues gallery.

@m3rlyn: There are 23. Court of Owls is great thats 11 issues long I think. And Death of the Family witch is also great is 4 or 5 issues. If you like slasher and horror stuff you will love Death of the Family.
