This moment...this is what I miss about DC comics. All of this.

I miss Babs as Oracle. Cain or Stephanie should be Batgirl.

@Babs:

I totally get where you're coming from, the current iteration of Power Girl makes me want to go all Supergirl on DC; but with great books like Aquaman and Wonder Woman I just don't know which I like better any more.

So let me ask you, Stephanie Brown(Who has been teased as possibly returning) and Cassandra Cain or New52 Aquaman and Wonder Woman? Which do you like more?

I'm in Pre-52 nostalgia mode lately. I miss the relationship between Dick and Babs. I PAINFULLY miss Oracle (and the Birds of Prey). I miss Helena Bertinelli. I miss Cassandra Cain so much that I'm in mourning, because I simply do not understand why DC editorial hates her so much (and when they have great writers like Gail Simone and Scott Snyder chomping at the bit to use her).

I'm angry, too. All the good that came out of the DCnU...it could have been done pretty easily in the old universe. And all the bad, well...who cares?

They say the more things change, the more they stay the same.

That's what DC editorial wants, anyway.

Oh well.

I like New 52 Wonder Woman and Aquaman! There is a lot of the New 52 stuff I have enjoyed, but there are a lot of things I miss, too. Cassandra Cain was the character I fell in love with, so knowing she's gone is kind of sad for me as a fan. Think about what it would feel like if a publisher completely removed your favorite character from their lineup and made him or her obsolete? That's unfortunate. Sadly I don't have all her old appearances, either and the majority of her books are out of print! :( I would love to see new stories with her in them. I miss her a lot.

This picture represents a lot of different things.

The love between Babs and Dick

Barbara as Oracle

A time when Cassandra could only communicate through body language (she had no verbal communication skills)

Tim Drake was Robin

None of that exists anymore! It's too bad.

#13 Posted by TheCrowbar (4286 posts) - - Show Bio

@Babs: Which one are you looking for my ex has a hug stack of Batgirl and *spits* Supergirl tpb.

Tim Drake not being Robin is actually something I like. It puts Tim on a higher pedestal. I don't get why they'd remove Barbara as Oracle though, DC(Marvel) editorial needs to stop interfering so much with their writers. Their only job should be to make sure their characters are consistent and stories don't mess with continuity.

The more I see of pre-52 DC, the more I wish I had regularly read it before using the reboot as a jumping on point.

It's weird. I've been a big defender of the new 52, but lately I've been feeling nostalgic myself. I think the problem is I never got any closure. There really wasn't anything resembling an ending for (some) those characters.

I miss Creeper and the rest of the Outsiders......and Wally.......I miss warm-hearted-cookie-eating-yet-still-über-badass Martian Manhunter. I miss Tim being Robin and being the best of friends with Superboy. I miss Hal Jordan not being a dick measuring tool. I miss it all.

Wow! Yeah, if you could sum up what the DCNU is lacking with one panel, that would be it. They wiped out the back stories to make things simpler...and they lost all the beautiful nuances of the characters and their histories.

Well, it looks like the DCNU is here to stay. Hopefully, they will be able to build these kinds of relationships again.

Only book from New 52 I enjoyed so far has been Aquaman. I really miss pre-52, just ignoring most of what Grant Morisson did in Batman is really lame. I really liked Dick Grayson as Batman, especially the way we interacted with Damien. Even when Bruce came back I was happy to see they were keeping Grayson as Batman in Gotham while Bruce went about doing his Batman Inc thing.

I think it was. Black and red from blue and yellow in the new52 is way more drastic of a color change than black and blue from blue and yellow.

The biggest problem I have with it is that nothing important changed. If DC's entire line of books had been an unmitigated success, then that would have been justification for the change. That didn't happen, past the first couple of months. DC's line is the same as it ever was. Some really great books, some really terrible books, and a whole lot of mediocre in the middle. The only difference is in which books are good, bad or indifferent. The overall gain in new readers was something in the neighborhood of 5%, so why change everything for so little gain, while also alienating a fan base built up over decades?

I miss so much about Pre 52

Superboy (the new character is not Conner Kent)

Red Robin with the cowl

Nightwing in blue

CASSANDRA CAIN!

Superman

a timeline that made sense

all of the great stories that everyone is raving about right now...Aquaman, Scott Snyder's Batman, Swamp Thing, Animal Man,...that's pretty much it....could have been done in the Pre 52 without changing anything at all about the stories....everything else in the new 52 has been just plain old mediocre run of the mill stories and it's a shame that we (the old 52 devoted readers) had to sacrifice everything we loved about these characters just so Aquaman, Swamp Thing, and Animal Man could be good books again

DC claimed they were cleaning up the timeline and continuity for new readers and that would have been ok (not really) if that's what they really did but they didn't...the new timeline is more convoluted than the old timeline ever was...I mean they've already had to retcon things and they're changing dialogue in the trades to make up for their mistakes...that's ridiculous in my opinion...plus the fact that their just spitting in the long term readers' faces by refusing to use characters that we've been BEGGING for them to use...it makes me feel hurt...the sales boost hasn't even been that big...one GOOD event and some creative changes could have brought in new readers and kept the old ones and they would have had even more sales.

....Did he really say "grinning ghoul"? No wonder comics are so frowned upon, with dialogue like that no one can take this seriously.

#28 Posted by B'Town (2337 posts) - - Show Bio

If I COULD choose between Pre & New 52, no doubt I'd choose the previous.

Sure, there are a lot of great stories being told right now, but it wasn't necessary to turn the entire DC universe on its head to get those stories out there.

I like the New 52, alot actually. I miss Cass sure but Pre-52 was erasing her out anyway. So its not like it was a sudden disappearance. Shiva's back, she beat down Bats and Robin one right after the other. Jim Lee is out and about, Kenneth R made the Outlaws a badass book (and now hopefully Superman). Stroke has his own title and now that "He who shall not be Named" had a breakdown and is leaving the title, life is good.

I started out very optimistic about the New 52, but a year later, the novelty has worn off and its becoming more and more apparent that the DCnU was built on sand.

New 52 is hit AND miss with me. Some things were done extremely well. Demon Knights isn't a book I thought I would enjoy but it's actually now one of favorites if not the top favorite of the reboot. I'm also enjoying Aquaman,Action Comics, and Deathstroke which were previously things I wouldn't touch. There are a few changes that I didn't really like though. Just for example, Wonder Woman is one of my favorite DC characters and i'm not enjoying her book as much as I thought I would.

@Vance Astro: I really can't say enough good things about Batman. Every issue's a surprise and Capullo's art is just...freaking gorgeous.

Nightwing is probably my favorite out of the entire DCnU, though. I was never a fan of Dick as Batman and Higgins hits it out of the park. The art is complimentary to the character and the characterization is perfection.

Well babs, I understand how you feel. I really do. There are somethings I like about the New 52 , (Flash, Aquaman, Animal Man) and there are things that I don't like, but the New 52 has only been around a year, we dont know what changes will come, it might surprise you.
