Strength and invulnerability don't always go hand-in-hand. Hulk has two arms, two legs, and feels pain when he's punched in the nose by a character that is significantly strong. These characters are flesh and blood, which isn't exactly news. What's ridiculous is when writers blow the characters' abilities out of proportion.
Well, back in the day the field was quiet a bit more narrow and comics generally even more inconsistent, with characters physical strength best described as as strong as they need to be. Any Marvel hero created before a certain point in time has probably beaten both the Hulk and the Superskrull at one point.
