How to start a good comic book story?

While I was working tonight I was brainstorming on a new hero called Greek. But while I was just letting my mind wander around with ideas on her abilities (which were pretty badass) I had trouble coming up with a buildup to her eventual godlike status with her magic arsenal. I came up wondering how did the golden age comic series like X-men or Superman start off? And how do I get the ball rolling?

Well the X-men didn't really start in the Golden Age and I'm not an expert on them but Superman just jumped into action and later incorporated the origin.

@papinacho: nah, Supermans origin is told briefly in his first appearance.

I have to agree with the OP though, I usally ripoff a bunch of different things until its unnoticeable and try to be original from there.

There's really no one straight answer. Try reading your favorite comics to get an idea of where to start, or a sense of what kind of tone you want the tale to take.

I think I'll start her off with The Aegis of Athena, Spear of Ares, and Atlas Armor

From there go Zelda style in her gaining her ridiculous arsenal

Kill off the main character at the start of the book.
